Not done with this yet, just painted with AV Wood Grain. Once I saw how well Durbûrz fit on it I thought for awhile about making it into a pillar for him. Decided instead to make another column for him and just go with a tree stump.

With Halloween over, might be a good time to hit the stores and get a pumpkin on sale for the stem.

This looks good and it is cool to see you make use of those pumpkin stems again. I'll be curious to see what the final product ends up looking like :)

With the elvish guard killed in the orc raid, Gollum leaves Mirkwood

Just some placing of figures on the latest stump.

 That elf blends in a little too well with Mirkwood. It took me a while to notice him there!

It is impressive how many ways you've been able to use a humble cd base to make terrain and even little dioramas. I really like the idea for this one and you did a great job bringing it to life. Goblin is his sneaky, slimy best in this one

Thanks GKA, soft focus on the elf helped also :-D

Kuribo - I always thought that scene would make a good diorama, I actually thought about buying another pumpkin with a taller stem but I made this one work with the camera. To do this diorama justice, I would have to shave the elf cloak off and use green stuff to make a flatter one.

The scattered "leaves" are actually off one of the tuff sets you gave me, I didn't like them as tuffs but rubbed the tops off and they seem to work as forest clutter. Thanks!

Those ideas probably would improve the look even further if you wanted to try them. Now those leaves do look familiar now that I take a second look! :) I'm so glad you've found a use for them. I consider those tufts my worst tuft purchase as I thought I'd really like them and I ended up barely using them as I got more experience hobbying. I would have never guessed the leaves were originally attached to tufts by looking at your latest work :yay:

non-lotr, but heck, at least I did something last month. Trying to focus on small pieces of terrain that can fit on a cd. having a horrible time coming up with something for dwarves or goblins. Did this for Broken Legions game.

Just some hirstarts molds with a stone from my driveway.

This is really awesome looking! I love the skull hanging on the pillar and the dark rock in the center looks perfect for a sacrifice as well.

Bought this piece of road at Dollar Tree for $1.25

Image

Took paint and wash to it, cut to fit a cd and used leftover edge for a buried road

Will probably do something with the plain cobblestone cd

The buried road texture base works really well. I remember someone in the early days of this site doing some terrain boards which had a lot of buried road sections similar to that.
Impressed me enough to buy a couple of rolls of the sheeting from the US (Christmas Village stuff) to do something similar. Needless to say 20 odd years later it is still un-used in its tubes.

I have two rolls in tubes also, pull them out occasionally for an Osgiliath board.

What I liked about the smaller sheet was the price so I didn't feel bad about cutting it up. The pattern repeats itself too much but with smaller applications it isn't so noticeable.

Didn't like just the plain cd. Added an Osgiliath piece to it.

Built a couple more ruins on cds, went back and added to others. Since I tend to use different bags of ground cover when I do these at different times, I tried to tie them all together with some yellow flowers and parts of roadway.

Nice-looking pieces there!

Would you mind sharing how you did the background image in the fourth picture? Is that a poster-size background, or something bigger? Did you print it yourself? What was the image source? Or was a just a photoshop job?

I really like the mini-bridge (last picture), but I don't recognize the pieces. Are they scratch built, or ...?

DaveT, I wish I knew photoshop! I do what I call xerox art. I search online for a picture I like, just print it on 8 1/2x11 paper, mount it on a piece of cereal box cardboard and stick it behind the trees to hide my paint bottles.

The bridge idea came from a White Dwarf when they promoted 20 years of the Fellowship, they had used pieces of Osgiliath (the wall top and some of the arches) but they had built it up higher than what I wanted. I had cut up some Osgiliath before and made some molds so that is what you see for the walls. I had used plaster of paris and one wall broke as I took it out the mold which is why one side is broken. The arches are from a hirst arts mold, the roadway is a piece of what I had bought at Dollar Tree when they had their Cristmas stuff out.

They look great as a set like that. Amazing how much utility there is in the Hirst Arts moulds.

I do not have the room to make a game board of a road for the various games I have, went with a series of cds to give the impression of a road. Bridge is just a toothpick one I threw together.

Add some trees to make it a forest road.
