Welcome to the May 2016 Painting Challenge. This month you have chosen ...

Image

Rules

YOUR CHALLENGE ENTRY DOES NOT HAVE TO BE GAME LEGAL.

If you are unsure as to whether something will be eligible for entry, just post asking or PM me and I will let you know whether or not you may use it.

UP TO 3 models themed around Dol Guldur.

1.To complete the challenge a miniature must be completed by May 31st 2016

2. To enter the painting challenge, the miniatures you are painting must not be painted before starting and picture proof must be shown of the miniatures 'pre-painted' (unprimed, undercoated or if you are repainting and old miniature - in its' original paint scheme) otherwise your entry will not be eligible.

3. You may join the painting challenge in progress at any time, but must submit photographs of the completed miniature by midnight GMT of May 31st 2016 WIP images are welcomed and encouraged. A maximum of 8 photos of your completed entries please, this allows you to show your miniatures off from multiple angles.

4. Miniatures that are completed in time will be eligible to win the challenge. The challenge winner will be decided by the vote of the OR community. The community will choose one winner and one runner-up from the completed miniatures. Votes should be cast not simply on painting skill, but on merit, including creativity, application of painting techniques, artist improvement, etc. There is no prize available for the winners of this challenge, the challenge is solely for community participation and as an incentive for people to reduce their backlog and improve their painting skills.

5. League points allocated in the usual format.
1st place - 5 points
2nd place - 4 points
3rd place - 3 points
4th place - 2 points
5th place - 1 point

Good luck to all

Good theme and seems to be 'flavour of the month' at the moment with the release of the new SBG magazine. Thankfully I have a couple of option, either the Vanquishers of the Necromancer or the old Bolg model. Both are undercoated and ready for painting.

Good luck all!

Do hunter orcs or gundabad orcs count as dol guldur? We do see both types in dol guldur during the desolation of smaug but just thought I would check first. If they don't count I have some wargs or a spider.

Ah, Red Box Games' "The Keeper". Fantastic sculpt that, really enjoyed painting him- looking forward to seeing what you'll do with him.

Will see if I can dig something up to paint for this myself. Should both have some evil spirits and majestic White Council members to oppose them. Pretty sure filling the gap on my Necromancer model would already take up the entire month though! :P

Yeah, I really love some of the Red Box sculpts. I never really cared for the GW Necromancer model or PJ's incorporeal version. In my head, I always imagined him in bodily form, and when I saw this model it just spoke to me. He's even holding Sauron's palantír!

Certainly a nice representation - had plans to use him in a late Third Age Arnor campaign myself as a powerful sorcerer indeed holding one of the lost palantíri.. the likeness is just perfect.

jumping in with both feet. sculpted this yesterday in one session, practicing some stuff. So I need to do the hands and weapons, maybe fix up some parts but I will try to get this painted up for the competition.

Awesome Josh! Until you trim that armature, though, all I can think is that he's skipping rope. Haha!

Well I hope I can improve on sculpting in the future but I tried some things I have not tried before, including sculpting a whole model in sculpey. Also feels good to paint an entire miniature which I have not done in several months. So blow off the dust and will get rolling into the next project. cant wait to see all the flowing cloth of the necromancers people are doing here.
