Hello to all!

Everyone will remember the moment when Gimli and Aragorn leap across the chasm to attack the Uruk-hai, giving the Rohirrim a chance to repair the gate.

How would you represent this in SBG? Would the model being charged count as defending? If the leaping model loses the fight, he falls down the chasm?

I'd like to hear your thoughts on this. Thanks! :-D

It would depend on where the model is...if the evil models in this case are directly against the edge of the chasm then yes if their is room for their base between the chasm and the evil model then just make a jump check and then if they land its combat.

Either case make a jump check to see if they fall regardless.

Actually thinking about it you could simply move the evil model so there is room and then if the good wins then they cannot strike blows.

That last part makes a lot of sense. The one jumping is basically crashing into the unsuspecting warrior, pushing them further so he can prepare his weapon. But if he loses, you could say that the warrior noticed the jumper and was more prepared to push him off.
I don't know if that's what you were thinking but that is how it makes logical sense to me. Thanks for your input.

You could treat it like defending walls

Thats exactly what I was thinking. Where the jumper is just concentrating on landing the jump and using his momentum to push the other model out of the way. If he loses the evil model either was a little bit heavier than expected or more aware.

I would mention that there is a bit in the mini blue rulebook about fighting across small gaps. However what they mean is small gaps between two walls and not across a gap.

I would also say spear or pike armed models could engage across a gap equivalent to the distance of their support attack with the stipulation that the other model wouldn't be locked in combat unless he also had a spear/pike and if the combat happened he wouldnt be able to strike blows.
