Just came across a couple of rumours on Faeit 212

Next releases:
Quote:
Lots of releases next week including some surprises. There are lots of hobbit releases, including Smaug. Smaug is extremely huge will be listed for expert modelers only. Of course he is going to cost you almost 500 dollars US, but this is a huge model standing over lots of gold and two columns with Bilbo hiding beneath.

and the future of Middle-Earth at GW:
Quote:
GW will re-release the War of the Ring Game with a Battle of Five Armies Expansion for the Hobbit Miniatures. GW want to use the Ring War Ruleset for getting over to the end of the Licence in 2018. A remake of the skimisher system will not happening after the Lost of the Hobbit licence in 2016.

The "how to painting Citadel Miniatures" Book bears the Lotr Logo, it's not only because the Tutorials in the Guide feature no Hobbit models. GWs Hobbit licence runs only until Early 2016, the other runs until end of 2018. When GW loses the Hobbit licence, they must release a new Rulebook with only Lotr content and the Logo of it.

No idea how genuine they are.

Well none of it is too promising anyway.

Smaugs useless to most everyone And In don't know if the Bofa rules will do more than teach us to push around clamp pack models.

At this point my expectations are 0 so Anything positive that comes out will be a pleasant surprise. Lol.

Personally I doubt both of them. Smaug at such a price point I think is unfeasible. But if that's the case I'll just buy that knock off for 1/2 the price.

WOTR just doesn't make sense with GW reducing the size of infantry sets to just 3

Smaug sounds cool. I'll have to save up for a couple of months, but by the gods he'll be mine, that or the knockoff one. It's options, at least. And more than I'd expected over the last few weeks.

If the second rumour is true I don't follow GW's logic. "The skirmish game requiring dozens of minis didn't sell sufficiently to warrant a new sourcebook and plastic kits, what should we do? Oh, sell a ruleset requiring HUNDREDS OF FINECAST MINIS. That'll do really well."

This seems like flinging Devlan Mud at a wall to see what sticks. Faeit212 / Nafka is a notorious click bait site. The Rumour Tracker thread on Dakka Dakka shows that he has an atrocious track record.

I doubt the rumour about a switch back to War of the Ring. I can see it’s possible we’ll get a new Lord of the Ring rulebook though if that licence is still around after the Hobbit one expires.

I guess it would be useful to know when both licences expire.

I'm dubious about the War of the Ring stuff for all of the very good reasons listed above.

Smaug however sounds plausible. I always thought it was likely they would do a model and considering his size, it would be mega expensive. $500 is absolutely insane BUT, if he's in Finecast like the rest of the range, not a crazy prediction.

As for Faeit212's reliability. Well yes, lots of rumours on his site don't pan out but he doesn't ever claim to be the source, his site is a rumour aggregator. He collects rumours from all over the web and posts them up (with rumour disclaimers) so that users can read them all in one really handy place. He never claims the stuff on his site is legit, just that it's the current rumours doing the rounds. However, he's incredibly fast at getting stuff up, I've found out about all the Hobbit releases this year from his site before I've seen them anywhere else.

Ultimately It's a good site, some people just don't understand it's function. He can't ever be wrong as he never says he's right.

I can't see a return to wotr for the hobbit at all. For all the systems merits i think the scale was far too large for a game that included so many metal units, and now we have the added expense of finecast?

I could see them try something new for massed battles though, perhaps just wotr scaled back to more feasible numbers based on the hobbit line, but unless they had this ready to go before they released their first hobbit minitures and thus are too far to turn back, I struggle to see even Gw being dumb enough to try WOTR for the hobbit

No idea how true these are but the bit that I like is that the lotr licence runs until 2018. If true that's longer than I have seen before.

So is this supposed to be the same issue with the new characters profiles?

Also can someone link me to the knockoff Smaug I don't believe I've seen it.

I'm mostly disappointed that it would appear that the Bard from the DoS book might never see the light of day, and I'll probably have to get Commander Forehead that they released instead. Interesting that there's no armoured Bard mini, though he might show up later.

Smaug is probably too much for even me, and I don't care for the windlance. I can live with a smallish band of Men - they're not much more than a rag tag band of survivors anyway, it seems.
