I'm curious why the Goblin Captain from the Escape from Goblin Town set is so small? I love the little critter but I wonder why GW designed him that way.

From the film. GW does very little that isn't directly inspired from a film image. He is hard to spot, but you can see him in the group.

As for why they made him a captain, probably because as a warrior he doesn't fit, but to command makes sense if you ever worked with smaller people they tend to have power complex, Napoleon syndrome as it is called.

I hate the model for in game reasons. Jumping, climbing etc becomes very difficult for the tiny captain

Goblins are malformed beings... their captain just had to be something like that ahahah

But for gaming purposes I'll have to agree, he sucks...

Only thing I don't understand with him is his Strength Value! As has been said, he is very very small and the fact he has more strength than say, a Dwarf Warrior or Elf Warrior is rather silly.

Whenever you use him, be sure to call him 'Tyrion'.

Haha, unfortunately the Napoleon syndrome is a myth. The idea that famous dictators like Napoleon, Mao, and Stalin were short can actually be traced back to enemy propaganda.

On the other hand, do you have a screen shot of the small goblin captain from the film?
