Welcome to the second One Ring Diorama Challenge.
Image

This challenge is to make a diorama which must include the minimum of 2 models
The idea is to try and depict a battle scene, be it between two single warriors or a larger group if you so wish.

There is No size restriction for the piece and no set theme as such as long as the piece is in keeping with Middle Earth, its is completely up to you what you would like to do with this.

The challenge commences immediately and completed projects must be uploaded to this thread by midnight GMT of DEC 31st 2014 making the challenge last for 6 months.

Any problems or questions feel free to PM me.

Rules.

1. Any miniatures used on the diorama require proof pictures to be taken as normal with the unpainted miniature against the challenge screen. Models already primed are fine to enter and if repainting an already painted model a picture of the mini in its pre repainted state is acceptable.

2. As it is difficult to take proof pics of terrain pieces then all that is required as proof is 5 Work in progress pictures of the terrain part of the diorama must be submitted either at some point during the challenge or alongside your completed piece.

3. You may join the challenge at any point. Pictures of completed pieces and 5 WIP pictures to be uploaded to this thread by midnight GMT of December 31st 2014. A maximum of 6 pictures of your completed piece please.

4.Entries that are completed in time will be eligible to win the challenge. The challenge winner will be decided by the vote of the OR community. The community will choose one winner and one runner-up from the completed miniatures. Votes should be cast not simply on painting skill, but on merit, including creativity, application of painting techniques, artist improvement, etc. There is no prize available for the winners of this challenge, the challenge is solely for community participation and as an incentive for people to reduce their backlog and improve their painting skills.

Have fun guys!

I'm gonna try to get something finished for this one. I didn't finish the last one due to uni commitments, but hopefully I can get it finished before the end of August (and if not, finish it over Christmas!)

To be fair to others I think I am too far. I have the eagle finished and the troll at the first stages of highlight and shading.
I probably only intend on adding Aragorn and then work on the base.
I think I will have to look into my backlog.

Don't you worry, not a problem Kev. I think I fancy something with an elvish feel. I have a box of Galadhrim that needs breaking into.

I think I might actually get off my lazy backside and enter this... I have a spare Tyranid base lying around which would be great to make something on! Also, I haven't been active one One Ring for ageeees!

Does "no size restrictions" mean that we also can submit something in other scale than 32mm? I think about something in bigger scale to keep it as diorama.

Are we restricted by number of entries?

OK I am going to bite too. I'll try to get something finished for this.

My idea is to have a Great Beast of Gorgoroth charge a unit of Gondorian warriors. I'm thinking this might happen on a bridge somewhere in Osgiliath. Bodies could be falling off the bridge into the water below (doing the splashes should be a challenge!) with the ruined bridge just bearing up under the weight of the battle.

I don't have a Great Beast, but have been meaning to buy one for ages. It's my favourite release of the last 5 years. I'll post proof pics when I have selected the minis to be included. I hope I can get this done.....

My entry will be to try and recreate my favourite scene from the trilogy, the charge Aragorn leads to defend the deeping wall.
Here is my proof pic for the Elves. Aragorn, Galadhrim Casualty, Haldir, 2 Galadhrim Captains, a Galadhrim Banner Bearer, 11 Haldir's Elves with Swords and 12 Haldir's Elves with Bows.

This is my proof pic for the Uruk Hai. I'm going to use all the pikes but the Captain and Uruk Hai with Shield I dry brushed the armour with Warplock Bronze earlier today. If I am allowed to use them I will otherwise it will just be the Uruk Hai Pikes. There are 16 Uruk Hai Pikes, 8 Uruk Hai with Shields, a Siege Engine Captain and an Uruk Hai Casualty.

Wow Imladris, looking forward to this one.
Are you going to incorporate part of the wall and the water gushing through ?

I have started cuttingng the wall from foam so yes to the wall :) unfortunately I have no experience with creating any kind of water effect so I'm not too sure on the water part.

yep, I'm in. And I have just the two models I need for this.

It won't be a battle in the commonly-understood sense either. Mwuhahaha!

I've had a re-think and have decided on something involving Orcs Trolls and The Fountain Guard. My only hope is I have time time to do it as I have busy times ahead of me.
