I know its really pricy...but for those wanting to update their collection there is an ebay auction for the entire set.

BGIME eBay - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LOTR-Warhamme ... 19e818d293

I hope someone finds this useful

A quick word to anyone new or renewing with our hobby - most of these models will be on ebay at a fairly cheap price, so you don't have to buy them all at once - you can get them elsewhere. For UK & US buyers, you should be able to find these and the troops at pretty good rates on your respective eBay sites.

The magazines are actually the more valued part of the collection, as it could be quite difficult to get hold of all of them. There are a number of people who sell them individually though, so have a look around.

The more valuable/less common items would be:
The display stand of Balins tomb
Farmer Maggot + Dogs
Sharkey
Theodred mtd (I would prefer to have his foot version also though from GW)

Finally, what I am not sure about is the Rohan Royal Guard Banner - I have not been able to find images for this guy to see if he is the real deal. The images I have seen his banner is always a different shape. I think the issue gives instruction how to make your own banner, so he might just be a normal royal guard. Would appreciate some info on this.

Personally, I would not spend 500 pounds on it as it would leave too many foot or mounted versions missing so you'd end up having to buy them off GW anyway if you can't find it on eBay.

Perhaps he just means Gamling by the royal guard banner

Hi,
from memory he is the real deal. A Royal Bodyguard figure with a banner pole sans flag.

cheers

Considering it's the magazines and 91 models/sprues the price isn't *that* crazy. I guess it'd cost you 400 quid or more to pick up the models individually from eBay, postage charges included. Then the magazines... to me the price isn't mad.

That of course, is if you really feel like you need all of those figures!

Price is definitely too high, think they were 4 quid or so originally, and at 91 issues (+2 specials) that's under 400 for the entire collection. Sure, the prices of normal miniatures are a good deal higher these days, but those in the collection are often badly painted - not to mention that few people will be interested in all of them.

¿And Gandalf the White mounted rare? That is one of the commonest models on ebay, some thirty available at this moment - and that's just in the UK...

As for the Rohan Royal Guard bannerbloke: it is a RRG model with an especially long spear, stickers could be added to make a banner, or make one out of paper yourself. Only Gamling in the collection was on foot (with sword, no banner).

I always get annoyed when people are like "and these are rare minis" and most of them aren't.
Huge set, compared to the price to accumulate its probably not bad. I'm always nervous I'm gonna bump the bid/purchase buttons while looking at stuff like this. I know it asks for confirmation but I'm like "avoid that button like the plague! "

Never believe what you read on ebay.. with the amount of 'rare' and 'pro-painted' stuff on there, you'd think they're selling the collection of the Louvre...

Respectfully, what they cost originally is irrelevant. Last month a nintendo game which retailed for $20 fetched $100,000. It's what they're worth now that matters.

At £500 he's basically asking £2.75 per magazine and £2.75 per model. It's not crazy cheap, but it's not mad either.

^ That escalated quickly

I just wanted to bring the auction to attention because I know people are always looking for BGIME who didn't jump on the train originally.

But I agree that when a model is showcased as 'limited' or 'rare' it can usually be found for under £5 somewhere.

I've just double checked my Rohan and the mounted royal guard has just got an elongated spear as stated above.

Your best bet is to always keep an eye open in your local second-hand bookstore. My local Oxfam Bookshop had the entire collection in their window for £25 - without the miniatures of course - but still an offer I had to accept! If I collected the two Warhammers I would have bought the newest rulebooks too, only £4 each, and a couple of WHFB army books at the same price.

I bought the entire collection of mags without figures for £20 on eBay with binders. Had to collect from 50 miles away but I travel through there for work.

I find on eBay its always best to be patient.

I got my collection recently for £70
Was lucky though, there was a buy now option.
Nowadays the magazine collection seems to sell for at least £200.

The guy selling that bundle is an idiot though.
The people buying the magazines for that much money are veteran gamers that wish to finish their collection or just missed their shot to get them when they were out.
The people interested in buying most of those models... yeah not the same guys.
Either he gets really lucky and a new comer decides he's gonna risk it or he won't sell it like that :/

I sent an email to agostinni but maybe I should send it to GW too.
Plenty of people would be interested in buying digital versions, they have the files, GW has the servers. Really don't see why they are not selling it.

I don't understand why they haven't offered ANY digital stuff for the LotR beyond The Hobbit painting guide...

The Hobbit painting guide was disappointing to me. As an American, I never had access to the BGiME magazine, but I would pay a decent amount for a digital download of the series. It couldn't be difficult for the company to compile into a giant .pdf. Shoot I'd even do a subscription for a digital magazine.

To think, I gave my magazines away, it was to someone worthy, a young lad starting out but I simply had no use for them. I still have a few issues from duplicates I picked up here and there.
