Or you could bend a bit of wire to shape then encase it in putty. A bit more skill required for that though

I have not tried anything like the tusk. I can see a problem if you do not have enough clamps.



But maybe not. One would have been enough. I used two wooden bases.



Hand pressure will often be enough. I pressed this a bit thin.



This would have been better had I not clamped it so thin. This is what I mean by a press book mold. It takes a bit of practice but you should be able to get a good result by practicing a few times.

I do not have any green stuff so I can not go to the next step. Clamping is more important during the green stuff step.

You need to wait for your putty to harden a little before you work with it. The actual amount depends upon the amount of curvature and the thickness of the green stuff. I don't have a good estimate of time but it sounds like the putty hasn't had enough time to harden up enough to hold a shape.
