OK this is a guide that is designed to give you an idea on how to fix those dreaded bent areas on your new Finecast model:

1. Locate the bent area

2. Drop the model in boiling hot wattle straight from the kettle ,

3. The bent area will hopefully bend back into the intended shape without you even doing anything.

This happened me to just now on my Amdur model who had a bent sword on foot , i dropped it by accident into the boiling water after not doing anything to do it after getting it out of its packaging and i saw it curl back into the right place. The model in the packaging showed the sword bent like a sheep's horn.

It seems this new material acts like a memory material once heated and sudden change in temperature it reforms back into its original shape. I had a Khamul model which i was doing the old way of heating just the sword area that had bent and then straightening it out using lollipop splint on either side. After i had done all this work i then put this model into the boiling hot water to see what would happen and the model bent back into the shape it was previously before i did all the straightening.

Hope that helps , thought it should give people some information on how to avoid snapping the bent swords into place. Effectively sudden temperature changes do work on these models.

Interesting result, I think its bath time at Bilbo's!

The malleable time you get when you take the model out of the boiling water is a few seconds so make the most of it , too many reheating and moving will wear the model down , as i found out with a thin finecast sprue. It may not spring into back into shape sometimes but this method makes it able to move it back into shape using your hands then leaving in that position so it sets.

For pikes I strongly suggest swapping them out with metal ones. Long thin pieces of finecast will droop over time, even if you have taken the trouble to straighten them out with the hot water technique mentioned above. Boiling water is too hot. Warm water will work and will be much safer. Has anyone tried a hair drier? A heat gun is also too hot.

I have used a hair dryer to dry paint on a fc min, it usualy makes swords etc curl, but you can heat the miniature up so that it can be reposed without the water. So effectively what I am saying is yes, it works!
