My guess would be a rough equivalent to the Shield Bearer or Dragon Knights. But with more of a background of the Kings Champion. If he was scheduled to be released at that time it would make sense to me. WOTR was out and generic heroes other than captains were on the rise.
My hypothesis also stems from their being "black numenorians" so "the White Numenorian" makes sense to me as a champion seeking to redeem his peoples honor

I think the face on the unreleased Frodo is better, more realistic in away, IMO

Really interesting to see these truly rare minis. I had no idea there were so many that were unreleased. It must have cost a small fortune just to get hold of those few figures.

Overall, I agree but I think I prefer the Sting in the unreleased version. It is a bit more elegant. I recall reading somewhere that the actors got to approve their likenesses for the miniatures - I wonder whether this is one that was turned down/not selected?

Could be, although it's so similar even to those of us used to looking at minis day in day out. I remember an anecdote from the time of the first release (2001) regarding Liv Tyler sending hers back at least 4 or 5 times, could be more.

a dinner plate would provide more protection. Other than that, the model is pretty cool.

Well, it's a simple buckler, small, but useful in melee combat

Hmmm he looks like a normal Corsair but he's metal? Perhaps he was a test figure. Or maybe he was an idea for some kind of captain but got discarded. Or maybe he was a Corsair reaver that never got produced?

Oh my... the orc drummer is the best so far! I would love to have this miniature! Instead of all the stupid overpowered stuff they released in the last LOTR release they should have released all this cool stuff...

The drummer is very nice but not as good as the one already released. GW's old sculpts reused a lot of the bodies as evident in aranel's picture. The newer plastics are far superior than to their old ones as the poses have more of a variety.
