Hi guys,

Image

basically I am thinking of re-opening my trade account with GW and opening a bricks and mortar store in the UK, previously I only sold online trading under the name 'WargamingMO' but I am thinking I may do well combining my passions for catering and modelling, so here is where I stand...

To open my shop I would be taking out a loan, I work full-time so no problems... but the bank would like to see a projected sales plan, as I explained it will be something which will be very popular round about December, so....

I will not hold anybody to this but just for say... how many of you would be willing to make a discounted purchase of around £10 in December when the next wave of movie models hits?

For example, if 300 members were to say 'yes, me me'.... I could print out and show the bank that 300 x £10 is a 'projected' incoming, therefore giving them confidence in the idea and hopefully helping to open a much needed gaming venue in my local area.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, all help is appreciated in this indecisive time! 8)

JT I would agree to buy every single GW Hobbit release from yourself as it was released until the day they stop releasing it plus if you stock Vallejo then i would buy my paints from yourself too. I had this arrangement in place with Green Dragon but as he has now thrown the towel in then my custom is up for grabs. You have my full support bud.

Hi, just like DMS I used Green Dragon for all releases, apart from direct only obviously.
So yes I will buy off you if you do something similar, also still buying the odd plastic Fell Beast and the like, good luck.

I'm with you JT provided the purchase with shipping works out less than I can get it from GW themselves. I think they do free shipping if over £20. Maelstrom got the bulk of my purchase until they folded, then Green Dragon, so I'm looking for a decent stockist now too.

Count me in. If I'm going to buy models I would always rather give my cash to someone in the hobby.

Pretty much echoing ukfreddybear and others - after Maelstrom and Green Dragon, my business is also up for grabs and I would gladly order from you.

If you also stock modelling and terrain supplies, then yes I would consider it. I had only ordered with GreenDragon once; generally it's the P&P that determines whether I buy an item from eBay or from a stockist.

I'm just adding a voice to the chorus really. I used GD a lot and would be keen to support an independent again, particularly one with a brick and mortar store.

As many have said the Postage is the key issue, it has to still represent a sufficient discount when the postage is added on. I'm not sure exactly but I think GD use to offer about a 15-18% discount - very tempting. He also gave free UK shipping over £40, this then meant that I would buy more from him to get the free discount. I remember buying the eagles (which is what I actually wanted) and then adding Bolg and some glue to the order to take me past the free shipping limit. Might be worth pursuing.

Good luck with it all

I regrettably never ordered from GD, I always wanted to and it was my intention to get the rivendell knights from him but I was prioritising on buying metals before they were finecasted at the time :(

It is a real shame GD was forced to close down and I feel really sad that I never supported him when I had the chance but I agree with Dr Grant that the postage and shipping deals he held were a brilliant idea. On the otherhand though it also prevented me ordering on a couple occasions because I always wanted to hit the £40 target for free shipping (I felt like I was losing out if I didn't!), perhaps my free raffle for anybody spending over £10 will help to attract the smaller orders aswell as the larger ones.

Regards international postage... I will always try to help out international customers with the cheapest possible methods available, however, I do not want to take the support and shine away from your local supplier. If you live in the middle of nowhere without a model shop in sight; fair does, I can and will help you by all means but if you have a local shop I would always encourage you to use them as your first choice and I can be your helpful back-up if ever needed :) Obviously I could try and gain all international custom with cut-price deals and offers but I don't think that those particular methods of business would benefit our hobby in any way at all, that little bit you are saving may just be the little bit that your local shop needs to keep running

With that said, if you 'knock at the inn' I will not turn your custom away at any point but I just wanted to express my beliefs in supporting good model shops which make the effort to supply gaming areas and paint stations etc, keeping our hobby alive in stores and not just on screens :gandalf: Gandalf agrees.

Hi,
Maybe you can start a crowdfunding project. People could help you to support the project and when they put 10 £ then they would get i.e a 10 % discount, if they put 30 £ they would get a 10 % discount and a t-shirt i.e. Think about it, as you'll be able to start the project if people give the money in advance and won't need the bank or at least you could request a cheaper credit from them.

In any case, good luck with it!

I'd definitely be ready to make all purchases from you. Everything from the models to paints and terrain and supplies.
Where abouts are you thinking of setting up?

I'm on the lookout for an online supplier. The local independent store offers about 10% off on GW. If you can beat that after p&p then I'd be willing to buy. Hope the plan works out for you.

Good luck with this, I hope it comes off for you. Unfortunately I am trapped by the tyranny of distance, living on the other side of the planet as I do.

A word of caution though - shipping costs can be the killer for an online supplier because you are at the utter mercy of the post office. Make sure you do your sums first before promising anything.

I would if it was possible. I am also on the other side of the world, but at the very least I'll check it out online and all
