Picked up Men of Dale,Erebor Captain, and Thrain today. The new models are amazing, Train is a little small, but nothing a cool base can't fix. The new men of dale are outstanding models, first ones that don't have base tabs either afaik. Can't wait to paint them to support my grimhammers.

That short staff on Gandolf drives me nuts. It is the only reason I didn't order it. I can't believe it was not noticed in the sculpting and approval process.

I don't think his staff is that much smaller in comparison to other sculpts of gandalf the grey.

Other sculpts have the staff roughly his height. This staff is is his height BUT he is kneeling. Compare the length of the staff to the length of other staves from other poses.

The staff in this pose should be much taller than the kneeling Gandolf.

Lol :-D

When I get around to painting this Gandalf I will lengthen the staff, imo it's a bit short and it would bug me if I didn't.

But he holds his staff at an angle... Anyway, I like the sculpt but won't buy it :)

It's not comically large, it's half drawn. So most of it is the scabbard with the extra length being Glamdring itself.

G.W. will never adjust the prices, but I do worry slightly about the range as I feel that the prices are beyond the reach of the school kids at the starter end of the Hobby. My immediate assessment upon the release of the Hobbit range last yeas was that the newbies would be likely to buy the Goblin town set with a few other bits due to the high cost (particularly compared taking into account inflation with the Fellowship of the Ring box set)! In relation to this I find it somewhat telling that all the stores that I have visited within the last month (Tunbridge Wells, Croydon and Plaza) have had the starter box set with limited edition Radagast, that I would have expected to have gone over Christmas.

I started with the Two Towers box set myself which was £40 and included a full copy of the latest rules manual at the time. I haven't bought the Escape from Goblin Town set (and am unlikely to) but I imagine it contains a mini rulebook like the Mines of Moria set. So not only do they expect new starters to pay £75 on a box set but they also want £50 for the full rules manual. When I first started (being at school) paying £50 for a rules manual would have been unthinkable.

Unlike the Mines of Moria set, the Goblin Town set rule manual does not include points values, which I feel is horribly tight fisted!

I thought i would post a picture of the new Gandalf Staff against an old one, its about 5mm to short.

So i decided to lengthen it by cutting just at the hand, taking a piece of resin and carving it down to size and texture. then a small amount of liquid green stuff to cover the join.

The scabbard is just the right length when the figure look at carefully.

It is a great sculpt IMO but just needed the Staff adjusting.

Ooooh I like what you've done with that Gandalf pose, Harfoot! Just ordered one myself.

I also like the fact that G's hat is optional... I kinda prefer him without but I like the illusion of free choice :P

I agree! The GW pictures really didn't do it justice.

Interesting new release on Wayland, don't know how Dark Art Studios get away with it!
