From local GW's facebook page regarding forthcoming events:

"This takes us right round to the Last Saturday of Half Term, the 3rd of November... this Saturday is the release day for a load of really cool new shiny models for us to go mad for, but what will it be!!!???"

So, 3rd November release date I presume?!?

I can confirm that as this morning I went to my local GW store to pick up some pots of paint for my miniatures and struck a conversation with the manager who asked I'm a LOTR/Hobbit fan and after I said yes he replied "Remember remember the 3rd of November". I was kind of dumbfounded at what he meant but I realized he must've meant the Hobbit's release by GW by the time I got to my car.

Oh I hope so 2nd November is the release date for Lego LotR Video Game (in the UK anyway), so I'll be looking forward to this half-term!

I seem to recall the LotR minis hitting shelves before the film. At least the Fellowship, plastics and boxed game... Could be misremembering though.

I don't know whether to be excited or worried for more Dwarves. I just counted, I have 58 bare plastic/metal/resin, 12-24 unassembled and 163 in need of stripping. Ugh...

On that note, how large was the biggest batch paint you guys have ever tried?

YES!! So excited!

You're not, I don't have the White Dwarfs to hand but I'm pretty sure the 'big' release of the Fellowship game was at the start of November and I remember getting very excited about our first 'proper' look at the HIgh Elves and Uruk Hai in White Dwarf. However, I'm also pretty sure that the month before the main release there was a 4 page preview that showed off a bunch of the figures and gave a few details about the game. Even more remarkably (when judged by their current practice) that same issue (i.e. the October one) had a 2 page spread that showed the entire pre-Christmas range along with a list of the entire Fellowship line with prices and release dates going up to about April/May! I think they first mentioned the game around March/April time and there was a picture of an unpainted plastic High Elf around August, there was certainly a great deal more made about the release back in 2001 and I remember getting incredibly excited by the build up.

They obviously work in a very different way these days due to internet leaks etc. so I guess we'll get our first peek/hint around Friday 26th - can't wait!

Hmm, could also be that they figured they'd have to do some extra PR work with the launch of an entirely new system. This time around, since The Hobbit (hopefully) fits in with the SBG they already have an existing player base.

Well there was little news for me to pass on today.

The guy said that Head Office have got their pants in a twist over the NDA with New line, so even store staff are being kept in the dark.

In his opinion, he thinks we might get a new starter set/updated One Rule Book, but thinks 3rd November is way too early.

I have agents combing the interwebs.

When The Fellowship of the Ring was released in 2001, the GW box set was released in November 2001 (film release was mid-December). The version for The Two Towers was October 2002. The Return of the King box set was released October 2003. On each occasion, individual minis and some blisters came out around the same time with more boxes of plastics and other blisters and individual minis coming along over the following months. Then with RotK we got Siege of Gondor and other supplements, with more minis.

So i would expect November to see big introductory box, rule book, and maybe a couple of other items. GW want to get a sales boost for Christmas, with all the 'free' advertising/publicity from the first film fresh in people's minds. Some more stuff will drip-feed throughout 2013 until Hobbit 2 comes along.

With all the advertising posters, trailers etc around at the moment I would imagine a pre movie release of perhaps Bilbo, Gandalf and the party of dwarves would be possible....
