In terms of everything together; fight skill, magic, special rules..
I've heard Khamul is the best, or the Undying coz he's, well, undying. Thoughts?

Khamul is the best in WotR, though he's pretty good if you put him on a FB. I played with him on FB a few days ago and he killed Elrohir in the first turn. Unfortunately, his brother had priority, charged, won and slew my steed in the next turn.

Khamul is the best in WotR, hands down. But, in SBG I would put my money on the Witch-king, simply because, while not necissarily the most tactical, he can wreak havoc on anything and everything put in front of him, given enough time.

But this is the SBG section of the site, so Khamul isn't the best Nazgul.

I find that the Knight of Umbar does make for keeping the heroes away, but he can't stand up to a mob of warriors.

In LoME it saw the Shadow Lord, now it is the Undying with Bugget Wraith support.

I recognize the use of the Shadow Lord, and the Undying has his perks, but how is he now the best? Not having the Mordor supplement I'm rather lacking on the informational side.

His survival skills when coupled with Budget Wraiths means he can kill and otherwise distract plenty of heores. Since in the new rules, you need to take a hero for every 12 Warriors, why not have Warband 2, 3 and 4 etc as being led by a Budget Wraith to power up the Undying. He's not the best on his own, but with Budget Wraiths he is the supreme master of the wraith-world.

Gotcha. Now I understand the terminology. Yes, such a situation makes the Undying a greater pain to kill, indeed.

Knight of Umbar is good against elite armies and heroes, although in a horde you will be reduced to hero hunting.
I don't think Khamul is the best in SBG, I know a lot people use the Dark Marshall as hisBbanner ability means he can perform multiple roles at once.
Shadow Lord and The Betrayer are both very situational, and suit only Harad, and Low Defence/Shooty armies respectively.

:)

I use him with a pair of Barrow Wights in my Angmar force. They're cheaper than budget Ringwraiths and have the paralyse spell.

Nice idea, King Ondoher. They are generally cheaper, he can sap will, they can paralyse. It is all very nice.

Budget Wraiths have more Will to give the Undying but Barrow-wights don't die if thet run out. The Undyinmg is for casting Black Dart though. However, Ondoher I thank you as you have just helped me to decide how to complete my 'SBG-all-stuff-I-like-army'.

Actually, going with one-and-one could perhaps work best- have a Barrow Wight, the Undying, and a 'regular' wraith with no upgrades- almost the best of both worlds, no?

In my 1,500pt SBG list (that i am still witing, I have the models though), I have the Undying, " Budget Wraiths and 3 Barrowights. I may also have a Goblin Shamn too.

Ah, very, very nice. What is the theme of the list?

I meant to say 2 of the Budget Wraiths by the way.

It is meant to be a sort of Angmar, Northern Misty Mountains Raiding force in which Sauron has sent some of the Ringwraiths North to search for the Ring and they are joined by Orcs, Goblins and Wargs, the Barrow-wights were summoned by the Wraiths (the Undying is pretending to be the W-K) as they 'know the area'.
