I am a beginner and have never done a conversion before. I suppose I could try switching heads and if the operation is unsuccessful, I can use them as decapitated casualty figures. Ooooh, this could be fun!

You could just convert normal Mahud Warriors into Tribe 'Masters'.

Since half-trolls are still spectacular, then I would, quite honestly, base as much of my force as I could around them- including fielding them in quatities as great as, oh, say, ten, if you could. Though, sadly, I have not gotten a look at the new rules yet. It is on my to-do list.

I have been nominating my mounted King as the King.
I have a two Kings on foot, and I am counting them as Tribemasters.

A while back I was lucky enough to pick up some spare shields and assorted other Mahud stuff
Planning to convert a Haradrim, using a spare King's shield and spear w/arm. Sadly I do not have
xtra heads lying around, but that is a minor thing.

I am totally going to run a bunch of Half Trolls in my next battle. I have 6 companies worth from WOTR!!!
Also got some Arbalasters for some ranged firepower too.
But I am not sure yet who should be the Hero of this force. Suggestions?

You need more than one Hero. Perhaps you mena Leader? If so, choose a fighty hero eg Suladan, Mahud King, Golden King, Hasharin, Dalamyr.

Unfortuantely, I have not played WotR so no worthy suggestion from me. Hopefully someone else will come up with a worthy leader for you -- but more importantly, a blood thirsty and fearless leader who will impale all those who oppose him. Sorry, getting over excited about the prospect of playing Evil. :galadriel:

He didn't say that he wans an army for WoTR only that the Half Trolls he will use in SG were originally used for WoTR.

A warband of half trolls -- excellent idea. Who would be a worthy captain for this warband? I am not sure, but each warband must have a captain and all warbands in your army have the same 1 leader. Is this correct?

So can I do this:

Leader: Betrayer
Warband 1: captain = King of Mahud mounted then 11 half trolls, 1 Mahud raider mounted with banner.
Warband 2: captain = Mahud tribemaster on camel then 12 Mahud raiders
Warband 3: captain = Mumak commander then Mumak with 12 blowpipe-armed Mahud warriors
Warband 4: captain = Mahud tribemaster1 on foot then 12 Mahud sword/shield/spear warriors
Warband 5: captain = Mahud tribemaster2 on foot then 12 Mahud sword/shield/spear warriors

This is just a quick idea. Let me know what you think.

Your leader can also lead 12 troops (unless hes one of those solo heros)

Oh yes, thank you for reminding me about that the leader can have his own 12 followers. I will change this list to exploit the 50% bow limit and poison arrow special rule as well. Thanks everyone for your replies.

You canonly have 50% bows if you drop all your Mahud as the only Warriors you can have if you want 50% bows are Haradrim Warriors, Haradrinm Raiders, Serpent Guards, Serpent Riders, Abrakhan Guard and Watchers of Karna. However Blowpipes don't count towards bow limit so you could have 100% blowpipes if you want.

Though since you have a huge amount of half-trolls I would be tempted to exploit that a little more, though the current army list is, IMO, very balanced and has a decent amount of troops in it- you don't have too terribly much to worry about, excepting an army with the ever-dreaded elven bow.

I was curious about the "Rare" Mahud you mentioned. The one with the Bone Knife. I have 6 coy in WOTR, all bought direct from GW. I do not think that I ever seen that one Ebay. Only on the GW's site. Also, there is a spearman that I have that is not pictured on GW's site. So I thought to myself that GW could fill me in on at least one question, "Why have I bought 16 blisters of Mahud Warriors and never got this "Rare" sculpt?" So I called GW... I was informed that specific sculpt is not in production now. It would be nice to have this one in my collection I suppose, if just for completeness.

Who has one of these Rare, Bone Knife Mahud???

As for Mahud going Finecast. I welcome it for the Raiders!

Also, will be picking up the SBG rules book this weekend for Fallen Realms.
Question: Are you certain Blowpipes do not count toward bow limit?

-I thought I read that they do, but that was Sunday...
...and I cannot remember that far back (4 days). hehehe

Hey,

For some reason, (someone will probably correct me) the Mahud with a bone knife was discontinued. The other spear armed one you're talking about is common, but the bone knife holding one is very rare.
I believe there is a thread hunting down rare miniatures and that is one of them : here ---> viewtopic.php?f=30&t=22177

And yes, Blowpipes do not count towards the bow limit, as they are not listed in the things that do. I would prob ably give all your warriors one, as a free shot with a poison re-roll is probably worth the 1 point.

Hope that helped. :)

Highlordell is correct, would've answered myself but I have a lot going on which is very important. Blowpipes have never counted towards bow limit but in old rules they weren't worth it, but they are now. The sculpt you at first thought was rare (spear dude), has never been rare, it is a common mistake which amuses me because i too have multiple blisters of Mahud.

Okay, some Thread Necromancy here... but I was actively involved in this thread so I feel it's okay :-D

I have scoured the Small Rulebook from MOM, and the the new Sourcebook and have completely missed where Blowpipes are the exception to the 30% rule for Bow Limit.

Are Blowpipes excluded from the Bow Limit rule because they are not mentioned, or is there an exception listed someplace I have missed over and over again???

I truly appreciate your help on this one!!!

It's not mentioned in One Rulebook because the only blowpipe around when it was written belonged to the Hasharii and counted as bows.

It's because blowpipes aren't bows whilst bows and crossbows are, in a way. I think there is some more specific refernce somewhere. In teh FAQ (which was recently updated) it specifically mentions bows, Orc bows, long bows, Elf bows, Dwarf bows or
crossbow;

Quote:
Wargear and Bow Limit, 4th Paragraph.
Change the start of the first sentence to “Your army can
have 1/3 (rounding fractions up) of its Warriors equipped
with bows, Orc bows, long bows, Elf bows, Dwarf bows or
crossbows – usually, this means that one Warrior in every
three can carry a bow.”

which therefore means that the rule only applies to these, and does not include blowpipesor throwing weapons. It is very specific.

Right on. I like to be specific. But bend easily when an opponent feels it does not jive with they read it. Again, appreciate the thoughtful answer!

On the subject of blowpipes, my mate once took a wose army to a GT. All woses have blowpipes as standard and nothing was said by the TOs, opponents etc. I think it is safe to say the blowpipes dont count as bows.
