The new White Dwarf gives the basics: one hero per 12 warriors...and all alligences between good allowed, all between evil. Did I read that right? (Gilgilad fighting next to Aragorn?) Exciting possibilities, though, for my previously hobbled Arnor army: wizards, at last!

And some BattleHost advantages mentioned: Gilgilad can upgrade his warriors Fight Value, like Grimbold. Im curious.

Seems a huge advantage for Good, with many more cheap heroes. Outriders, anyone? Time to dust off my Rohan.

Expensive heroes crimp essential numbers even more.

What becomes of LOME? Now and again a LOME tournement for old times sake? I guess we decide, eh?

Well I assume LOME is obsolete now, as each of the books has the scenarios in, which is cool.
It's too early to see what will be good/bad, except the given things from WD. A lot of heroes seem to have the ability to upgrade some troops in one way or another.

I'm curious about the allegiance thing, maybe they will limit what some characters can ally with? Or simply leave it to the players to decide. I know I couldn't bring myself to ally, for example, aragorn next to Gil-Galad.

I also imagine that Outirders will not be Heroes, though if Rohan don't change pts/stats wise that could be their advantage over other forces.

If your group agrees, then by all means play LoME battles. Warbands make the cheaper heros (like captains) almost required to play the game. Still don't know whether that's good or not, though I do know it'll stop my friend from fielding Balin and 600 pts of dwarf warriors in a 700 pt game.

I think that is what they were trying to stop, one hero, and then the rest warriors.
In all their sample lists, GW like to add in banner, horns and named characters. Some of their lists seem crazy.. like a Moria army at 500pts having like 25 models!

Also the battlereport in the WD gives a rough idea of another scenario that is basically "KILL them all", but you get 1 victory pt per wounded model, meaning those high model count armies aren't that good..

Well, a 25 model Moria army isn't that bad when it includes the Watcher. In a 500 pt match you can have the Balrog, 12 goblins and a goblin captain with a shield. That's one thing I love about Moria: you can either swarm your enemy with loads of goblins (and a few cave trolls too) or send in a few huge monsters (which isn't as effective, but definitely fun).

Well, they just released a bunch of command boxes with horns and banners in them. So naturally the sample list makers were told to use the two new monsters, lots of command extras and Easterling riders. :-)

I came up with a 500pt Warband list of Moria ( i included Groblog and a Dweller even though I don't know the rules, only their pts values. I will post it here if noone objects:

Durburz, 11 Moria Goblins, Dweller in the Dark
Groblug, 11 Moria Goblins
Goblin Shaman, 11 Moria Goblins
Goblin Shaman, 11 Moria Goblins

Total 500pts, with 49 models, and unknown amount of mt pts.

PS, I am not asking for army help, just attempting to come up with a better list than the ones GW supplied us with.

The same pts as a Spider Queen or Warg Chieftain, 5pts less than a basic Cave Troll, and you can have more than one Dweller.

Really excited about the new warbands system, I like the look of it a lot. Not sure on how the alliances are going to shape up. I hate the idea of being able to ally any good/evil force together, but the LoME restrictions weren't particularly good or helpful, so...

Anyone have any idea what's happening with bow limits? It looks like they don't have to be calculated by warband, so I'm guessing they'll be worked out by contingent like they were in LoME.

I looks like the bowlimit is by warband, with the Serpant Horde allowed to have 50%

Wow, really? I haven't seen the new WD so I was guessing based on the sample armies on the blog. Those rangers all have bows, but they could easily be an exception (iirc they were in LoME) but if it's calculated by warband that screws easterling players over royally unless they get an exception as well.

Cool...is that in the new WD? I did not catch that. Or did you find it somewhere else? That would explain how a non-Hero, no might, low cost monster could be described as 'able to kill the strongest hero'. To have Gulavhar's recharge abiltiy for so few points? Seems a little overpowering...

It is in the new WD, I think page 37. It does seem overpowering, but GW do that with regularity, howerver, I think it may have a fairly weak profile though.

@Dragluin, lol at your perception, that sounds about right.

@Pippin: The full profile for watcher is in the latest WD. He is pretty awesome. He can use his tentacles to drag models to him in the shoot phase even if charged. He will eat heroes alive if I am not mistaken.
