But DocDeath along as your having fun, that's what matters. Plus yeah I understand what your saying, you could field the perfect army and still lose, there are so many variables in a game that could change things.

Most of it, no need to be specific.

Legolas, I was trying to help you but if you don't actually want an answer, why ask the question? Quibbling about every small thing doesn't really help you all that much and I'm a little mystified as to what the point of all of that was? :)

DOCdeath, fortunately for you the remedy for lack of experience is to play through heaps of fun games of WOTR :D Haldir isn't bad per se, it's just your opponent hasn't exactly taken any second best choices. However, I always admire a player willing to put up with slight handicaps.

There is something I want to say actually concerning your chances of winning. No list IS IN ITSELF overpowered but every list CAN BE overpowered.

And the only reason I said Isildur and Imrahil over Aragorn was quantity of heroes.

What exactly are you talking about Xelee? I just thought your dictionary definition was quite funny and I'm Mystified that from a list of armies you know exactly what a player is thinking.

Well said xelee, I appreciate that fielding a lot of core troops is probably the best way to go , but at times it can be a little repetitious . It is fun to try different combos now and again , one of my favourite 'the three hunters'.
Gothmog trust me he really is an evil genius .

Did your friend play Aragon, Thranduil and Haldir? Just wondering because I play MM and wondered how you managed against those epics?

That's a bit harsh, Elves seem to have a very distinct shelf-life in that they definitely have their tricks but the solutions to those are relatively straightforward and once-burnt, twice shy.

What this thread is really prompting me to wonder is just how common all of these combinations are amongst the wider LOTR gaming community? I mean, I know a Mumak would be useful to a Moria list but could never see myself doing it, fails the "too silly to be able to carry out the act of unpacking the army before a game." Test (a very odd balancing act where Toy Soldiers are different degrees of silly.) Same goes for Thranduil (maybe Thranduil with 4th Age Ithilien?) or Galadriel in Gondor. At the same time, armies based around on what armies actually had historically, in the stories (ie lots of largely similar troops) seem to be considered odd - so I guess this is your opening to rush in and say, "yes Xelee you are very odd indeed and your notion of 'realistic' is at complete odds with Tolkien/reality" :-D

I play Isengard (Dunland) , Angmar (Carn Dum), and Gondor (Ithilien!) Gondor and Isnegard get to fight at a range of points levels but never over 2000 points, while poor Angmar is really a 1500pt max list and I still have 140 pts of 2HW Orcs to complete for this. The Gondor and Isengard lists are the most troop-heavy. I do not own a Mumak but am envious of others and people were encouraging me to go down the 'Wooly Mumak' route a while back.

Cheers

Straight out of the box, units as presented, yeah I agree with you.

On the other hand I intend to build a Warhammer Fantasy Arachnorok to serve as a goblin Mumak which I think will be very in theme, and a Mt. Gundabad/frozen wastes themed goblin army with a well converted Woolly Mumak would be (I think) sufficiently cool to pass that test.

Definitely, I think it can only ever be a personal thing (since we all like different things) and I am really asking out of a growing sense that what I quite like seems to be different from many posters here!

What do you mean by straight out of the box units?

Unconverted, using just the basic, generic GW color scheme. Using the models just as they are presented by GW without any real personalization.
