Hi guys, just looking for some ideas and criticism on my armies and how to improve them.

500pt

Imrahil w/ armored horse and lance
5 KoDA w/ armored horse and lance
8 KoDA
12 Men at arms
11 Rangers of Gondor

37 model, 11 bows

700pt
Imrahil w/ armored horse and lance
Angbor the Fearless
6 KoDA w/armored horse and lance
8 KoDA
12 Men at arms
6 Clansmen of Lamedon
14 Rangers of Gondor

48 models, 14 bows

To date the 500pt army has prevailed convincingly against dwarves and isengard; breaking the enemy army before a third of my own force has been lost, but the 700pt army is as of yet untested.

Any help, criticism and general comments much appreciated.

I'd say give those rangers some spears, that way you don't have to double up with men at arms.

Looks good-glad you're using the men of Lamedon-I don't see them used a lot. :D

Nice to see a Fiefdom's army! You don't see them much around as they are nearly all in metal. The only thing I'd say is what Whafrog said. Very solid lists 8)

Hi guys, thanks for all the great advice

i tend to use the army with two different infantry blocks of the rangers and foot knights and support anchored to a piece of terrain, however, regardless of this a few spears in the rangers would allow more flexibility in play style and formation, both in use as one large block or two separate groups.

have to admit i got a few things wrong when writing the lists up here, will correct them now and add a few things with reference to the advice received :)

500pt

Imrahil w/ armored horse and lance
4 KoDA w/ armored horse and lance
8 KoDA
12 men at arms w/ pikes
10 Rangers (w/9 spears)

35 models, 10 bows, 5 Cavalry

700pt
Imrahil w/ armored horse and lance
Forlong
Angbor
5 KoDA w/armored horse and lance
8 KoDA
12 men at arms w/ pikes
14 ranger (w/7 spears)
6 clansmen

48 models, 14 bows, 6 Cavalry

one question remains now, and that is would i benefit more from dropping the third hero in the 700pt list and replacing them with up to 6 foot troops be more beneficial to having the might and killing ability of an extra captain? im only too aware that at 700pt i could be outnumbered by 22 models

I would say Forlong is unnescesarry in this list and unthematic too. You'd be better off getting some more guys.

I agree.

Have you had problems being outnumbered with either list?

In my experience, being outnumbered is when Fiefdoms flourish. F4, C4, D6, is going to keep your knights on the field for a long time and mounted KoDA do a very good job of making the numbers even...

The fiefdoms army recently improved its record to three straight wins, this time at the 700 point mark. in answer to an earlier question, yes i have been outnumbered in each game played with the army but having fight value of 4 across the board really evens the odds, coupled with a deep pike block and imrahil's huge banner effect means that more often than not you can win combats and as spuds said on the charge imrahil and his knights pack a real punch.

One thing i did notice and was hampered by is the lack of a hero at the head of the pike block, i have often found that without the ability to heroic move i'm constantly on the defensive, and that whilst angbor and his warriors work well as a 'nutcracker' against hard targets and in flanking the enemy after a few turns of combat, they spend most of the early part of the game hiding from bows behind the pike block until they can team up with warriors with hand weapons and use their two handers to take out stubborn enemies. Obviously, angbor is little use leading the pike block as he would be the softest target to shoot at and cant be supported by pikes. I've been thinking that as an alternative maybe the axemen of lossarnach and forlong might be better substitutes, they wouldnt have to hide from bows early in the game and could help support in initial turns of combat using spears before exploiting gaps with their two handed weapons later, like what the clansmen tried to do.

the army would look a bit like this:

Imrahil, horse and lance
Forlong

6 SKoDA, horse and lance
8 SKoDA
12 men at arms
6 axemen of lossarnach
7 rangers, spears
8 rangers

700pts

i think ill use this army for the next battle and see which of the two fares best

one extra point id like to make is how well the rangers performed in their ranks (now with spears) holding my right flank, holding off (and really hammering) a flanking force of easterling kataphracts with khamul on fell beast for four turns on their own, like i said before, fight value 4 is a real difference maker. 8)

I don't think you need that many pikemen as you can use the rangers instead of doubling up on pikemen and then you could get some more AMoLA.

The list looks good, doesn't need any changes in my opinion. 8)
