Alrighty then. Nice to see it does have some upsides to it. Does this mean article draft submissions will be lost. I think i may need to do another transfer since I have made some changes - yes I do it mainly on here and copy to word. Rather than vice versa for some reason, probs easier with tags and all.

James

Just curious, was the last hacking attempt at the same time as the last awards?

Nope.

Regarding articles pending approval and in draft mode etc, the article database will be saved, as well as all the images, and I expect everything to return back to normal again once the newer version of the library software is loaded.

That's good, I was just trying to see if there was any pattern with the hacking attempt, maybe some "jilted lover", so to speak, who didn't win an award and comes back every awards for revenge!

Good heavens. Imagine, one person has employed their "hobby", of a sort, onto a website where we meet to communicate the enjoyments of our own harmless hobby (save to our wallets). What a ridiculous and rude degenerate, whose deviant acts I hope will no go unpunished.

I have changed my password. Are there any other precautions we can take to ensure online security and safety for the time being? Like, is there any thing specifically we shouldn't post about (besides what we already has enough common sense not to post, of course)? And also, Dagorlad, not to be facetious, but when you said that we should change the password to other online accounts that share the same password and username combination, does this mean that online accounts that share only the same password or only the same username are okay to leave the same?

@Jamros,

I mean, if you have accounts on other forums or websites that use the same login you have here (or even email address) and have the same password you have here too. Especially sites like PayPal or other places where financial details are kept.

If you use different passwords on other sites or different logins, then I don't think the hacker can do much to hurt you.

...but seriously, this is beyond belief. What the hell do you gain from hacking the OR, self satisfaction? Stupid jerkoff.

As for what you need to do Alan, I'm sorry you need to waste your time on this and I stand behind you 100%; I think I speak on behalf of the whole community when I thank you for your efforts.

Keep it up :)

I appreciate what you're doing Alan, it must be a pain to sort through all this. So three cheers from me :D :D :D

I get a sense of satisfaction out of the fact that I'm currently parked in front of the towns' only computer, a '91 powered by a duck on an electric treadmill, downloading a virus onto this hackers computer....

If only :(

I appreciate that you'll be letting us know ahead of time before reconstruction, so I'll have time to put myself in a self-induced coma for the duration of the site's lockdown.

Not cool at all. I wish I could help, but I don't know much about computers, and anyway, I live practically on the other side of the world. Thanks for the heads up, I really appreciate the work you're doing for this site. Good luck!

This hacker has already got what he/she came for (but there's a 99% chance of being male), he knows that he's upset alot of people and that is his gratification. More and more people require no reaction in order to get a kick out of harming someone else, they are a new breed of bully. Broader and stronger and able to move in daylight. One who knows they are causing suffering whether it gets them attention or not - the effect is the same. The only thing we can do is fight them any way we can, by shoring up our defences and trying to get on with our business.

It's a shame this has happened, but the best we can hope for is that things return to normal and we have a good respite before the next onslaught. Kudos for dealing with this so swiftly and efficietly, Dag :).

Will.

Well...

I just changed my password; took ten seconds while on hold, so my inconvenience was highly not epic.

Is this what passes for exploits nowadays? You hacked a forum software file?

Whee?
