I don't think this is such bad news, as it would be awesome if Peter Jackson directed it himself. Ridley Scott would be ok too. I didn't see Robin Hood but Gladiator was terrific.

Robin Hood was a$$. Oh how the mighty have fallen...

On that note, why don't we just have Russel Crowe play Beorn?

.... Or even better, Bard.

There was a joke that because R. Scott was directing the Hobbit that Russel Crowe would play bilbo. I think Crowe would do well as bard.
I don't know who would play thorin or beorn.

lol Russel Crowe as Bilbo!

I think they have someone to play Beorn, some guy that was in the Hellboy movies. I guess Russes Crowe would make a good Bard, but I don't really know.

Now I hope Glorfindel will be in the movies as part of the white council. No idea who should play him though, definitely not Russel Crowe.

I don't think Russel would ever work as an elven character. I think bard would definetely work. I don't know if anyone else has seen sherlock holmes but the massive French guy who beats the pulp out of Holmes I think would work as Beorn.

Personally I don't think it will be that bad that Del Toro isn't directing any longer...and the studios aren't going to push it back (again) due to lack of a director, they will just force PJ to find a replacement.

Schwarzenegger is 62...how rock hard do you want him? :?

I too think Crowe would make a pretty cool Beorn. :)

I hope Ridley Scott and Peter Jackson co-direct it...

All actors reprise their roles inc. Ian Holm

Russell Crowe as Bard

Doug Jones as Thranduil

:)

Yes. Ecspecially Ian Holm. But I'm pretty sure he will not be in the Hobbit due to his age, and with every delay, it becomes more and more impossible for him to play a fantasy hero. It just makes me so mad, though, that Ian Holm was in FotR's prologue as Bilbo, and that Gandalf made the remark "You haven't aged a day," and they have to replace him for the gosh darn prequel! Looking at pictures of Ian Holm today, I think it could still work, honestly; he really doesn't look that much older than he did in LotR; it really just depends on his health. I highly doubt they'll get him or Christopher Lee back on board, sad as it is. They may not need a Saruman, but if they do, and they replace Christopher Lee, I'm going to be really ticked, because Istari are always the same!

Christopher Lee is dead... I don't think he would have been necessary anyway. It would be hard for Ian Holm to be younger than in LotR. I think he's only supposed to be about 30 or something in the Hobbit.

With Ian Holm, it all depends on his health! He is quite old, but doesn't look much older than he did in FotR! I seem remember Gandalf saying he looked as ever! This was because he had the OneRing! With a little make-up, some exercise, he could pass for Bilbo at 40, never mind 60 as he should be!

Exactly! But I bet you they won't even consider using him again. :(

If they don't have Ian Holm, then I hope to God they find someone who looks like him, because to most Tolkien fans, he IS Bilbo Baggins!

Lets just squash this bit of rumor before it gets out of hand.

Just like the rumor of Christopher Lee's death, you're quite mistaken. Lee's latest role is in the movie Burke and Hare currently in production along with 4 other movies and 3 others which have already been released this year.

Scott is working on directing the Alien prequel, sans Sigourney Weaver and The Kind One. With nearly two dozen movies currently in development on his plate, I think the likelihood of his association in Hobbit other than as a co-producer is small.

Like we have seen illustrated in this thread, plans could change of course but wherever you heard this has no basis in truth or rumor.
