does anyone have any ideas for the road? i was thinking perhaps 5mm foamboard, sanded down at the edges and then the stone grooves cut into it with a hobby knife?

You should try textured plasticard, it should work.

Instead of painting it, get some spray-paint. You can get some cheap grey spray-paint from somewhere like Wilkinsons.

Were you going to do ruined buildings or un-ruined buildings?

I'm going to start work on the buildings over the weekend and i'll probably make a WIP on it. just wondering is 3mm foamboard ok? i can't get any thicker
