Greetings, One Ring Community! Most of you probably know that we've begun a new series of Painting Challenges over in the WIP forum. Well, the time has come to select the winner of the December Challenge. These are not the typical painting competition because votes should be based not just on painting skill, but also for merit, including creativity, application of painting techniques, artist improvement, etc. There are Gold Coins on the line, so vote for those who you think are most deserving. The poll will remain open for 7 days.

I now present, for your viewing pleasure, the finished miniatures! (Further photos can be found in the Challenge Thread)

I placed my vote for Samoht's Saruman the White. He took a different approach to Saruman's robes, rather than the warmer, off-white tones usually employed. The cooler scheme illustrates Saruman's growing indifference to the fate of Middle-earth, and the addition of the Eye of Sauron at the top of the staff (and next to Saruman's ear) has turned this single miniature into a small diorama, in that it alludes to the story and the fall of Saruman under the Dark Lord's influence.

Great work, Samoht!

All of the entries are stunning. eBob, producing a well detailed diorama worthy minature, Erunion doing a nice job on his Gandalf the Grey, BrentS's wonderful paint scheme on Shadowfax (looks better than the 'Eavy Metal Team's one's for Gandalf the White in my opinion), SonOfArathorn's BaruKhazad's and aqan's different paint schemes for the MoM version of Gandalf. All and all truly brilliant work for everyone but Samhot's Saruman grabbed my attention the most.

Samoht's Saruman is marvelous, I love the original idea of having the eye of sauron in his staff rather than it just being a white ball. The robes are fantastic. Well done is definately deserved here. 8)

Put my vote in for Samoht's as well. Great job, man 8) the eye of Sauron truly completes that miniature.

KJNecromancer did a great job with Sauraman and samoht's is definitely my favourite, but I voted for anduril because of the unique colour scheme on Cirdan. Great job everybody.

I like Anduril Blade of King's Círdan the Shipwright from what I can see, needs a bigger pic and the base finished to get my vote though. But it really looks like who can paint the best grey :)

Samoht's Saruman the White's face and staff are excellent, but the robes don't do it for me and looks like grey stripes compared to valpas's Gandalf the Grey and it's subtle shading.

Stil deciding...

It was a hard choice because there were several entries that all deserved to win ecause of a comlete new paintscheme, realism, etc :yay:

I voted for ebob's gandalf because both the painjob and the base are almost perfect.
It has for me a real lotr feeling.

For second and third place I would say samoth and erunion because of the details on saruman that nearly makes him a diorama and the realism on erunion's gandalf
(especially the staf)

Unfortunately, if I get any closer with my camera, the picture gets all blurry.

I voted for Samoht's because I like the darker robes not just white blaw.. I also really like the idea of the eye on the staff. Erunion's was a very close second but the alternative scheme on Saruman was too tempting. 8) Great work everyone! :D :)

Anyway, i voted for KJnecromancer's one because of the lightning-thing and it was his first time trying that out
