For those of you who live near Boston MA, I would really suggest going to see the LOTR Exhibition as soon as possible, before it leaves October 24th. The ability to see the costumes up close, as well as really examine the props, is amazing. For example, it shows all of the rings that the kings of Men were given, and then when they were turned to Nazgúl, how their rings turned to stones with a red eye in the center! I don't know if that's true to Tolkien's vision, but it was really great to see these minor details come to life. Also, I saw some discrepencies with some of the color schemes that GW has chosen with some of their painting advice.

So, my basic suggestion is go to it if it's in your area, you won't be disappointed.

Oh yeah, you should see the minatures of both Orthanc and Barad-Dur. Breathtaking...

I'm not sure, but I bet it was. If it had a display of costumes from the moive, as well as history about each of the main characters, then it probably was. Did you get a chance to see it? If you did, what was in the England show?

yeh, I went down yo see it on new tears eve. The trip down for the exhibition with my mum :roll: was my christmas present. It was a 3 hour train journey from Newcastle to London, but It was worth it as London was the only place in europe that it stopped at (the exhibition, not the train lol)
It had loads of costumes, the Barad-Dur and Orthanc models that they used for the film, weapons, behind the scenes clips, the ring, BIG models of treebeard and the cave troll, concept art from the books, little video clips that showed you in tiny detail how a lot of stuff was made, the haradrim costume was amazing az it had about 12 skulls on in intricate detail, smaller than my little fingernail that the cameras could never hope to capture, a life size Boromir lying in a boat that looked so realistic that one boy nearby said to his mum 'does he get up and go home at the end of the day?', and so much more stuff, including lots of different ways that they made the hobbits look smaller (they even took 2 photos of you and the person you were there with to make one of you look like a hobbit and one of you look like human size, and vice versa, but it wouldnt work anymore cos my mum looks like a hobbit now compared to me anyway lol). It was great and was my best christmas present ever (even better than the £70 forces of the dark lord boxed set). I loved it and was the best new years eve I've ever had. 8)

It sounds amazing. Is there a website showing where it will be next or something like that?

Grimbold.

Absolutely!!!!

The haradrim costume was amazing! The skulls were such a nice touch. You're right, it was a great show, and we were in the exhibition for over 2 hours. The attention to detail was just splendid. Did you get any inspiration for your own modeling? I know my Moria Goblins are going to be influenced by their armor I was able to see up close. Did you happen to see the Mumakil model? Amazing...

Ellesar:

I would just do a web search and see where it's at next. Definitely don't miss it.

It truly was a fantastic Exhibition. I went to see it on January the 5th in London. The only bad thing about it was that the minature of Orthanc was taken out due to filming needs so i didnt get to witness that :cry:

As captianuruk said, the Barad-dúr minature was breathtaking. The amount of detail in it was fantastic, and the Armour of Sauron was an awesome piece. Shame that i couldnt bring it home with me :lol:

Im not sure how they are running the exhibition in the US but here in the UK we were not allowed to take photographs of any of the exhibit :cry: dont know why they decided that, but there we go.

Hope this comes back to the UK one day with more props/outfits in it though, would love to see it again!

Gstormcrow:

That was my plan, but they were quick to confiscate our camera at the show. We had to stow it in a locker!! The security was very tight. I do have some pictures of the statues built by Isildur if you're interested, or anyone else. Maybe I can post them on the site. Let me know...

Posted some pics of the statues outside of the exhibit at The Last Alliance under my gallery (The White Hand Man.) Very cool. Check them out if interested. These would be GREAT to sculpt.

@captainuruk
I didnt see a mumak model for some reason, I dont know why it wasnt there.
Also, at the exibition I wasnt thinking too much of my minis (shock horror :shock: !)because I was too busy being stunned and amazed by everything that was there. It truly was amazingly breathtaking.
I loved the sauron and ringwraith costumes and gimlis was great too. It was quite funny how Viggo Mortensen's tooth got knocked out in the fight scene with Lurtz, and insted of delaying the filming so that he could get a false one, he made them superglue it back in lol.
I loved it and still have the photos of me and my mum looking like hobbits! 8)

@Grimbold

Agreed! I got one of those pics taken too! The story about Viggo was great, and did you see how he also bought the horse that he used because he built such a strong reputation with it. That's crazy. No problem not thinking about your minis, but I just couldn't help thinking that some of the colors that GW says we should aren't the colors from the films. For example, the Harad don't have purple! I want to paint them as realistically as I can. I just wish cameras were allowed so I could share with everyone what a great exhibition it was. :cry:
