I just remember the Battle of Helms Deep where Gimli ended on 43 and Legolas on 42 (+ one dead one that moved because of Gimli's axe).

Can't remember the Minas Tirith battle...

Yeah, but for some reason they changed it in the film. After Helm's Deep in the book, Gimli was on 42 and Legolas on 41. They must have forgotten that or something, 'cause they added on one kill in the film...

I only saw the EE of TTT the other day. It was so funny when Legolas said 42 the Gimli said 43 with a cheeky smile so Leogolas shot the one he was sitting on coz it flinched. Then gimli gets up and says that's coz he has my axe in the back of his head. I laughed for ages at that.

If this is about the number of enemies killed i'm not sure, but Legolas would win the contest easily by (although it was cheeeeeesy) single handedly killing a Mumakil.

I am certain it's Gimli, because in the appendices it is said that the race of elves is fading and they won't do great things anymore. You can see this in story as well: Gimli slew more enemies than Legolas, but Aragorn smote most of the Three Hunters

I like it in the Pellenor fields when Legolas kills the mumakil and thenslides down the trunk in front of Gimli, who then proclaims "that only counts as one!" :D
I doubt they had contests in tFotR because they weren't friends then.

I wish I had the EE... :(

Hmm.. Actually I think Legolas killed a lot more on the Helm's Deep... When he shoots to the rope of the big ladder.. I can't imagine the Uruk's would still be alive when falling from that height.. Just thought about that...

Also more stubborn... maybe Gimli lied a bit ;)

I would think Legolas would win, just by killing at a distance. The little fella could not match Legolas there at all. Both do quite well in hand to hand fighting, although having a 2 sided axe works great in close quarters.

isnt it ment to be and in the darkness bind them, not blind them
or was that deliberate?
Grimboldofeastfold also reckons: gimli killed more at helms deep(43, legolas killed 42) but the outcome of the pelennor fields contest isnt stated.......yet 8)

yes legolas killed a mumakil, but eomer killed 2 w/1 spear! and even eowyn killed 1. anyway gimli probably killed more w/his strength & legolas wounded more w/his speed & arrows. but we know @ in the book & movies aragorn killed the most w/strength & speed

Gimli said"He was twitching because my axe is enbedded in his nervous system" (after the siege of Helmsdeep).

But how did a (medieval) dwarf know about nervous systems... especially in Uruk-hai heads??
(maybe he cut one open at Amon hen)

i never remember the line being that acurate, but mayeb it was a guess, seems as hes killed enough things to know they twitch when they die, it is like the year 2015 or something
