Sure this been been done before, but what the hey.

My favourite minis all seem to follow the same trends, flowing robes and spiky armour.

For me, the best minis are the Black Numenoreans, Mouth of Sauron, Ringwraiths and Sauron himself.

I'm also a fan of the Clansmen of Lamedon, but not nearly enough for them to win the top spot.

I really enjoy the hobbit models, Bilbo especially (like you couldn't tell :)). I love the conversion possibilities with them and I don't necessarily collect an army that has to be dominate on the battle field...I enjoy a challenge and they afford that to me as well as being some of the best looking models in the range.

I also have a soft spot for the Rohan Outriders and Theoden as well.

Hmmmm, I am not really impressed by any models from the LOTR range enough to say I have a favourite! Honestly the 40k range is GW's best IMO. But since we are not talking about that.......... I would say Prince Imrahil would be the only model that came close, or the Legolas model with one leg propped up on a rock firing his bow.

As I said there are not really that many impressive LOTR models so I find it hard to choose.

I think out of such an exstensive range, your mind can wander to something that took your fancy recently, forgetting great miniatures and sculpts of past.

For me, off the top of my head, the one miniature that sticks in my mind, was the 'NEW' release of the Mounted Arwen (not the old one)...

This was an outstanding piece of work in my honest oppinion ! Just takes the right person to paint it, which obviously makes all the difference.

I think others which seem basic now are still fantastic miniatures, like Theoden on Foot, Gamling on Foot and Fellowship Boromir (although it would have been 100% better with the sword detatched from his side).

Others such as bigger models like Treebeard, the Cave Troll and the Armoured Troll I loved too.

In earnest, there are too many to mention :)

Me? I love Eomer and Theoden on foot. Their armour is very nicely done in my opinion and they actually look like the character from the films.

Moving along to my least favourite model. It's pretty close between this lot.

Suladan - He looks like he has an ice cream cone for a head. Enough said.
Legolas - Has a massive brow
The Wose's - Bad, bad, bad.
The Uruk Hai pikeman with his pike at the lowest angle - He has a terrible mold line down his back.

Invisible Frodo gets a mention too for the easiest model to paint

A bit of a Necro bump but…

Heroes:
My favorite thus far is the Grima Wormtongue model. It is wonderfully sculpted and I am very happy with the way my army’s color scheme turned out on him.

Warriors:
I absolutely love the Uruk-hai Berserkers. They have a very menacing presence on the battlefield and they were a lot of fun to paint as well.

Swan Knights of Dol Amroth on foot (they just look so damn awesome :D )
On the evil side, Mordor Troll, chieftain or not

I'm fond of Haldirs elves too and will get an army of them if/when they do those plastic ones

But at the moment for evil, Lurts (why not? he looks cool, lol) and for good either the Rangers of the North, they look how they should IMO and are well sculpted (although I'm no expert) or Aragorn, Isildurs hier for the cool pose 8)

Both the Amon Hen and the regular Lurtz models look great. GW just needs to give him a buff so there is more gaming incentive to take him. Right now he is overshadowed by what Vrasku and Ugluk can do (And what is with his average shooting value? :-X ).

There are many excellent miniatures to choose from, but I have to say that I adore the Saruman miniatures, especially the one from the White Council boxed set.

I like the Elven heroes as well.

There are so many to choose from but I think the ones that I like the most are anything to do with Gondor, from Denethor and Boromir right through to the every day WoMT I like them all.

I agree completely, I LOVE this model. Others for which I have a soft spot include the Knights of Dol Amroth on foot and the Gandalf the White model in which he is holding his staff above his head. I adore Haldir's Elves also. Finally... Something about the Ringwraiths attracts me to them, although (to be perfectly honest) I am not sure what it is...

Glorfindel is great, but he doesn't hold a candle to the Elf Twins in armor. Two greatest minis ever created.

Period.

Gotta continue with the Elves here and say I love the Mounted Glorfindel model.

Also, most of Gondor, like Boromir of the White Tower and especially Guardians of the Fountain Court (Even better when I added Dol Amroth shields to them).

By coincidence I was reading the third edition of the collector's guide again, and stumbled upon a mini which I forgot about, but is possibly the best sculpt ever.

I'm talking about the uruk-hai engineer captain that's pointing at something.

He looks sooooo strong and cunning and cool and I dunno what more. :yay:
There's just nothing to say about it in a bad way.
