I have heard rumours that Peter Jackson is going to release a Ultimate Lord of the Rings Blu-ray edition in the next few years.

It is rumoured that it will include the fully extended movies, never before seen deleted scenes, such as Aragorn fighting Sauron instead of the Mordor Troll.
It is not likely for the box sets to be released for two or three years, I assume they will be coming out around the same time as the Hobbit movie, (If that ever happens).

PJ does not want to add extra footage to the film, but it will be retouched.
The extra footage will only be deleted scenes, produtction photos, production sketches and feature length documentaries on the making of the movies.

If you have any other news I would love to hear about it,

Yeah I guess so, ah well Blu-ray will dominate the world soon.
I just bought a 360 afew months ago and they are already outdated because of HD. Its a bit of a shame, but hey a perfectly good reason to get a PS3 aswell!

:D

The Aragorn Vs Sauron fight appears in the EE DVD of RotK extras. I would imagine that they will review special effects and maybe tweak one or two things that were not quite perfect.

I got a blu-ray player over the holidays. I'll definitely pick this up if it comes to fruition!

I think I was watching one of the EEs the other day, or I read something on a site like Theonering or something like that, about all the camera shots they took of the Last Alliance Battles (eg the footage you see on the FotREE of 2nd Age orcs and Elves and Gil-galad etc) and it either said / or read afterwards that in an Ultimate Edition some time in the future shots like these of battles etc will be added into the movies.

Anyways, and new LotR footage is ace!

Yes I do recall that now, there will be extra footage added inot the last alliance scene. I
f you look in the L.O.T.R SBG book there are some pictures of Gil-galad and some elves stalking through the fog, these are pictures taken from the scenes that will be added.

Elladan and Elrohir? I really wouldn't bank on them appearing. I do not believe they even filmed anything of them for the movies (though Weta did mock up some stuff for the LotR Decipher card).

I agree CC not likely that they will appear in the movies or extras, but until
then we will have to wait and see.

Today i actually watched the Director/Production Team Audio Commentary
on The Two Towers. They were talking about making an re-edited version
of the three films as a one big movie, where all the scenes would be in the same places as they really are in the books.

Although they said it would be for the 50th anniversary or something :P
