Post subject: | [S&C] Challenge Nov/Dec - KINGDOMS OF MEN |
Welcome to the Bi-monthly Sculpting and Converting challenge. This time the subject matter will fall under.... In this challenge you have several options to take part: - Sculpt from scratch (starting with or without armature/metal wire/...) - Convert an existing miniature (to a new or another character or race/region, to change it's situation, rank, pose, wargear, ...) You may sculpt/convert more than one character should you choose to do so but please bear in mind only 4 finished pictures can be submit for the vote. Only one entry per person per challenge. So choose carefully! 2. To enter the Sculpting & Converting Challenge, the miniature you are converting must not be converted nor painted before starting and picture proof must be shown of the miniature 'pre-converted'. Re-converting an already converted miniature is NOT allowed!! When sculpting from scratch, you must picture proof this with your blank armature/metal wire/... aswell as a work-in-progress-picture as valid proof. All "proof-pictures" MUST either have the announcement-screen of the running challenge in it's background, or contain a small note with the announced theme and date written on. 3. You may join the Sculpting & Converting Challenge in progress at any time, but must submit photographs of your completed work by midnight GMT of DECEMBER 31ST 2013 . WIP images are welcomed and encouraged. You are allowed to use any sort of sculpting epoxy, aswell as scratchbuild materials (such as metal wire, plasticard, rivets, chains, ...). You are allowed to use parts from other miniatures (such as weapons, heads, banners, arms, horses, ...). Your final work must stay UNPAINTED and contain 4 pictures; showing FRONT, BACK, LEFT and RIGHT side. 4. Miniatures that are completed in time will be eligible to win the challenge. The challenge winner will be decided by the vote of the OR community. The community will choose one winner and one runner-up from the completed sculpts/conversions. Votes should be cast not simply on sculpting skill, but on merit, including creativity, application of techniques, artist improvement, originality etc. There is no prize available for the winners of this challenge, the challenge is solely for community participation and as an incentive for people to improve their sculpting skills and to encourage creativity onto their shelves. 5. Winners from the previous month are able to participate in the next months Sculpting & Converting Challenge, but they are not eligible to win in consecutive months. |

Ah yes! I'm gonna sculpt myself a miniature from scratch. I was hoping something like this would come up soon. I love sculpting, but there's lots of things I could improve on and hopefully this challenge will help me do so A quick question; is this challenge two months? Or is it just up to the beginning of December? |

Very nice theme! I hope there will be more entries this time. I just need any idea for a miniature that is not sitting on anything! |

Time to get my next S&C project going... Options include: Eomer - Different pose. Theodred - Different pose. Elfhelm Déorwine Imrahil Converted Guards of the Fountain Court Converted Knights of Dol Amroth Converted Sons of Eorl Decisions, decisions.... If anyone has an opinion as to what they would like to see let me know. If I get any response then I will try and complete the project(s) that people would like to see. Keep in mind that I will try and make at least 2 of the above, unless I go with the Fountain Court, Knights of Dol Amroth or Sons of Eorl. If I do either of those I will probably create 3/4 different sculpts and then cast them so I can produce multiple for my army. Cheers! |

Anything scratch sculpted. Or one of the things you cast when I get one! |

Would I be allowed to convert a leader from the Kingdoms of Men, enter it here, and enter the painted version as a leader of the warband in the painting challenge? |

Yes provided you have pics of the model before and after the conversion, and before it gets painted I don't see why not. |

Great! I'll actually be able to enter this one because my degree will be finished, so lots of freedom. I reckon I will probably submit some Rohan leader conversions. Probably a whole group of them. |

Do I post finished images here, or email them to somebody? |

Just post them here when you are done. For the record, you can enter six models if you wish. You are only allowed a total of four photos though to show off your work, so you'd have to have more than one mini in a couple of the photographs, which might hinder your chances if people can't see your work because it ends up too small in the pictures. |

I ordered my Black root vale archers from eBay a few days ago and they should arrive at the weekend. So I'm going to convert the banner bearer I think! Proof/progress to follow. |

mertaal- You may want to adjust the background a bit because with everything else there I can't concentrate on the figures |

Thanks Elflover- good point. Going through a bit of a "transition" at home, so well lit space that isn't a painting station is somewhat of a premium! Is it permitted to submit a second round of photos? I've taken some more, this time against my airbrushing booth (read: old Amazon.com cardboard box ). I'm just aware that the rule specifies 4 photos, so if I submit more then I'm going over that somewhat. |

Yes you can show as many photos of the work in progress as you like in this thread. The four photo limit applies only to the judging process. I will usually assume the last four photos posted are the ones to be transferred to the voting thread unless the entrant specifies otherwise. |

Ok great- they're still not the best, but there's not so much busy rubbish in the background, just busy paint splatters!! I have since based them though. I hope that's ok. |

I think the bald guy with the fur collar is my favourite. You should start your own WIP thread in the WIP forum. Then you can post pics of the individual minis as often as you wish. |
