Quick question,

First off I do not have a copy of the rulebook so I obviously have not been able to read it, BUT ...

Could you field the Grey Company to support a Gondor army or it is just allowed for Arnor?

Thanks for your help, I am working on an army and want to make sure I would be able to use it.

Grey Company is just a version of the Arnor list, and all Good armies can ally with all other Good armies (all Evil with all other Evil too), so of course Grey Comapny can ally with Gondor, but you'll have to pick which Gondorish list you want to ally with.

Awesome, thanks for the response!
One more question to bug ya with, are the Gondor army lists in War of the Ring or the Battlehosts book or both?

The rules for all models in WotR are in the WotR rulebook. Battlehosts is an expansion, it contains no extra units, just themed ways of grouping some of the heroes and formation together in accordance with film and/or book.

RE your first question: The Grey Company is part of the Gondor and Arnor list (as, I assume, is your Gondor army :) ), so you don't even need to ally 8) .

Its a modest Gondor Army but a Gondor Army nonetheless :D

Take a look at my Allies list, which is taken from the SBG and adapted for WOTR. It will give you who may ally with whom.

But that is not compulsory. It certainly gives more "fluff" to the game and solves a lot of powergaming comboes, but maybe you will want to play the official rules, all good can ally together and all evil can ally together.

Uh, dude, maybe you are not as experienced with the game than I?

The rules are busted. In the normal rules you can field an army from Isengard, that has a Harad Mumak, Kamul from the Easterlings, a balrog from Moria, Burduhr from Angmar, and Sauron from Mordor as allies...peer cheese to me.

and yes, I play games that are 5,000 plus points, with the largest being 10,000 right now, andaccording to WOTR there is no limit on where you can get your allies from.

Maybe you should try playing the game with just a few more points than 500-1000? Have you seen my 5,000+ figure collection? I'm sure it dwarfs anything you might field, and yes, all painted, and yes, almost all are metal. There are lessons to be learned in the game mechanics that can only be seen if you play larger games.

That first part is redundant and offensive, so I'll just ignore it further.

I know they are busted. It's just that I assume that he'll have enough sense to realise "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should". And sometimes you want to use a profile from another list that suits a converted unit (for instance my planned Guards of Orthanc aka Black Numeoreans, which wouldn't be possible using your system..

Have fun. I hardly see the relevance.

I'd stick with 500-1000 points for learning, that should keep you from overcomplicating things with a huge army with lots of different things to keep track of. Even when you have the mini's, it's IMO better to begin small and slowly upgrade, at that point you can learn the larger-game mechanics.

I appologize if you think that I was trying to offend you, that was not my intention. Sometime you cannot quite tell with forum postings.

I find it funny how you (katanas) equate large games with experience. It's definitely best to just let new gamers play according to the rules before you start house ruling stuff.

I'd definitely only start a beginner on a small scenario, possibly with only two warbands or so and using no heroic actions/magic/fate for the first game, and steadily step it up to 500-700pts.

In my own experience games of 1500pts+ in the old rules took too long - warbands probably speeds it up some, but I'd still rather play a smaller game.

I was just about to say the same thing.

You don't get 'Warbands' in WotR unless you mean an unruly /wild formation like Orcs/Goblins/Wild Men/Haradrim/Uruk-hai

I've been playing WOTR since it came out. Actually, a little before that as there was some demos going on in some stores. I have layed every army there is, and I OWN ALL OF THEM!

Larger games do help with the game balance. Super combos, such as Aragorn with Dain in a Dwarf formation, will eventually use up all their might in doing their special attacks, thus leaving them vulnerable. You will not see this happen in smaller games, there is simply too few units on the table.

Simply put, in large games all the rules and points balance out, thats all I am saying.
