Why does Sharkey have a picture in the Isengard force list, yet not have a profile? He's not even included in the formation 'Sharkey's Ruffians.'

I assume that you can use him with the same rules as Saruman, I doubt anyone would mind. Also, they're just showing off different models and different paint schemes. If you notice, they have the same sculpt of Elrond in the "gallery" with a different paint scheme. Same with Dain and Balin.

Sharkey is a guise of Grima - therefore, you use Grima's profile ;)

No, Sharkey is Saruman when he went to the Shire. Grima is Worm.

When did he go to the Shire? Doesn't he die in the extended version of RotK?

In the book Saruman didn't die there, he went to the Shire later after the Ring was destroyed and terroroized the Shire, when Frodo, Sam, Merry andPippin returnd they managed to help overthroow him, defeating his ruffians beforebeing stabbed in the back by Wormtongue, who was then killed by Hobbit archers.

I need to reread the books. I don't remember those events. Thanks for that.
I finished the TT but haven't read the other two in years.

In my opinion, the Scouring of the Shire is one of the highllights of RotK, I don't like the Jackson version were the hobbits come out all unscathed, its too farfetched.

minor correction, Wormtongue doesn't stab him in the back, he grabs Sauruman from behind and cuts his throat.

I agree, though obviously he couldn't add ANOTHER hour to the film.

I don't lik Tom Bombadil much so leave him out.

@FL, thanks for the correction, and, well there's plenty they couldcut out to swap it for.

Frankly, I wish they had discovered that Fellowship was a big hit and had decided to make it 4 movies. The Scouring of the Shire could easily make a movie itself.

There are probably all sorts of logistical, legal, financial, ecumenical reasons why they couldn't have done that, but it would have been nice.

That is actually the one thing about the extended editions that bothers me. As long as we didn't see Saruman's death we could imagine that all the events in the scouring of the shire still happened, by adding that scene into the extended edition it makes the movies actively deviate from the books even more, instead of just omitting stuff.

They had finished filming RotK before FotR was even released.

Actual filming, yeah, probably, but I am pretty sure they were still working on post production stuff for the other films when Fellowship was released.

Anyway, like I said, "There are probably all sorts of logistical, legal, financial, ecumenical reasons why they couldn't have done that, but it would have been nice."

Considering when PJ first pitched the deal he was asking for 2-films and was happily surprised when they offered 3 as per the book break down I would be amazed if they would have gone for 4.

In any book-to-film transition there are going to be things left out or changed. There's just no way around that. The film makers are interpreting a story. And in a story as large and deep as LotR that interpretation is going to have multiple differences, some we agree with and some we don't. Though the Scouring really was an important part of the books and one I enjoy in the book and the BBC radio drama (that's probably where you got the stabbed in back from) it wouldn't work well in the films. There were already many people talking about "how many endings does this film have?". The Ring goes in the fire, then you have the crowning, then the return to the Shire, then the departure at the Gray Havens, and the return to the Shire again.

For a fan of the stories we would have liked to have seen the Scouring, which may have been able to be played out in 30 - 45 minutes, but it would have drug out the ending even longer and many would argue it doesn't add anything necessary to the story arc and to keep it in the 3-film format Extended then something else would have to have been cut. And there would be the people complaining about that.

I think PJ's interpretation of the film was very well done for the most part. I have re-read the books many times over 30+ years since the first time I picked them up and I enjoyed the three films (Extended) greatly though I don't agree with all choices. My wife had never read the books and knew very little of the story also enjoyed the films greatly (she has said MANY times how much more the Extended added to her understanding and we have never seen the theatrical again since the first time in the theaters). So I think PJ managed to find compromises that reached both audiences...fans of the books and general audience.

Jackson wasn't asking for 2 films, he wanted 3, but the HObbit o be the first one, and LOTR to be the other 2, like the original cartoon versions were.

No, he wanted 3, but they only gave him money for 2, which would have caused Armageddon, the plot sounded so bad. They were gonna completely cut out Two Towers. Basically, think of Eragon movie v book and you get the idea. Like Beowulf said, he had to compromise, which is why I despise the movies. However, they are still the best movies ever made, so I still love watching them :P

Yes, they were still actually touching up RotK about 6 months before it was released, but the filming itself was finished too early for them to change anything. It was a huge gamble for them to film it that way, but it was a gamble that REALLY paid off. Good thing too, because now we get the Hobbit movies. And this time, no one will even consider not giving him funding.

in an interview in the extended version first one, i was sure he said he wanted 2 LOTR and 1 Hobbit, but they wouldn't give him license for Hobbit without paying more, so he just made 3 LOTR instead.

His initial budget was like 20 million dollars, then I think New Line took over, so maybe after they took over he was gonna do Hobbit + 2 LotR.
