No new units, but it does have a slew of special rules for certain units. Nothing for huorns specifically, BUT they do have faction specific Fates and Fortunes, one of which is Wrathful Woodlands for the Forgotten Kingdoms, which basically turns a woodland defensible terrain feature into huorns for a turn. |

thanks for the quick answer. thats kinda nice about the huorns i guess. but it seems theres no reason to actually have huorn models then? or does the woods terrain move around? o, nm, its just for a turn, so im guessing any enemies in the woods get bashed by branches for a bit and then the woods turn back to normal.. |

Ya, a lot of strong hits in one turn. The only thing is you need to have one of the FK battlehosts, one of which is just a lot of ents, the other a lot of hobbits, so it'd be kinda hard to use the "huorns". |

Yeah. If you're going to go for the Ent Battlehost anyway I suggest the Fortune that allows you to upgrade one of your standard Ents to VH2K. At least that way you'll have two like that and (hopefully) Quickbeam and Beechbone, leaving you with just two generic Ents. I think the Fortune is 75 points (yikes!) but might be a little high with that. This will give you a force of six Ents, two of which are VH2K and two others are lesser Heroes, all for around 960 points. If you wanted this to be the main punch of your army, you can add 6 Companies of Wood Elf archers to make a 1200point list, or add Thranduil and 10 Companies of Wood Elf archers (divided into multiple Formations of course) for 1500 points. Archery in WotR may not seem very effective on paper but when you have that many Companies raining down the shots it will give your opponent something to think about and may support the Ents long enough for them to get in and get busy doing Entish things. Obviously that's not a tuned and optimal list...just something fun to think about as a starting point. |

A very expensive starting point... |

How do you make it the main punch when you can only spend 25% of your points on ents? |

That is true, you would need a 4000 pt match to include that battlehost, though I have a feeling that each battlehost was meant to be a single army, so the FK only allies rule might not count for them. |

I think the authors just weren't thinking about that when they wrote it. The entire book comes across like something that had no playtesting done at all, just 1-2 guys writing up some stuff they thought would be cool with no regard to how it would actually work. for myself, I would be totally OK with anyone who wanted to treat a battlehost as their entire army and I would actively encourage anyone wanting to play an Ent or Hobbit or Spirit army to just use the host and not worry about the rest. |

Why Spirit? They need a bodyguard |

Can I ask why you can only spend 25% on Ents? I know SBG had the "Forgotten Kingdoms" with a special rule that they can only be allies, not the main part of your army, but WotR does not have that rule, does it? There is nothing wrong with the Ent BH being your army. If it was ever clarified that you need one Common formation in addition to the BH then just move one Ent out or ally in a Common from something else. As for expensive, I've seen armies posted here including 7+ Cave Trolls, or 5 Mordor Trolls plus some Winged Nazgul. Considering that Ents are about the only force in the game that can be hand crafted relatively easy and decently I'd say it has one of the cheaper options. |

SBG doesn't have that rule, WotR does. Only 25% of your army can be FK, but we're saying that the expansion ought to overrule that rule. |

Its the other way round, WOTR has the 25% of points spent on allies (which is what tis discussion is about) but in SBG there is no limit. |

I know WotR has the 25% rule on allies. My question was does WotR prevent you from taking FK as your primary/only force? If that's the case then I apologize for the suggestion on the Ent BH above. As others said, it is pretty ignorant on the part of GW to prevent you from building an Ent (or even Hobbit) army in WotR under those conditions. |

Yes, we got ther in the end, ents (including their BH) can only ever be taken as allies. |

Damn stupid of GW. For some reason I was thinking the FK-as-allies-only option was an SBG thing. I guess they did that to keep people from taking the special Legendaries ( White Council, Fellowship, etc. ) as their primary force. Really dumb though that it also relegates Ents and Hobbits (but I only care about Ents!) to an ally-only position. Go GW! |

Yeah, as you say a good idea for the legendaries, but no so much for ents and hobbits, of course the only hobbit epic heroes are in different lists anyway. |

I was rereading Return of the King, the chapter called "many partings" and noticed a part I didnt remember. I love lotr, you can read it a million times and still find new things to think about every reading. Treebeard is telling Gandalf, Galadriel, Celeborn, and company that the ents destroyed an orc army in "the Wold" which is between Rohan and Lorien. Basically saving Rohan from being burned down. So theres a battle between orcs and an Ent-only army. Ents should not have to be an ally only option. |

On a side note, someone should compile a list of lesser battles from LOTR that arent as famous as the big ones. Credits for me for pointing out the Battle of the Wold!] Oh and it should be called the 3rd Battle for the Wold, coz there were two before it; pre-war of the ring. 1st was Eorl the Young defeating alot of orcs. 2nd was the same dude Eorl losing and then getting killed by Easterlings!. Lotsa things died in that place over the years. |

Ents are an ally-onl;y option becaue either GW is tupid, or (more likely) because there isn't enough varity to make a complete army out of them. There's no need to call it thta, (though i'm not sure) as the others have different names eg The Field of the Celebrant, its just that one that they couldn't think of a better name. |
