Post subject:  Gandalf vs. Saruman

Hi all, I'll be playing a 1500 point game with elves against a pure giant spider army with Ungoliant (profile dragon), Shelob, Druzag, and a SQ. I'm going to take quite a lot of magic as I'm playing elves and it's helped me a LOT in the past. I can't decide whether to take Gandalf or Saruman. Saruman for his ruin spells, excicate would be catastrophic against giant spiders, and bolt of fire could help take down shelob as well as voice of saruman stopping a lot of crucial charges. But I'm considering Gandalf for Touched by Destiny though I already have Galadriel who has the same spells but mostly for beam of light (his unique spell, I can't remember exactly what it's called) to counter his dragon. Thoughts? I played this guy before in 1000 points without the dragon and I used Saruman and he was very very effective.

Blinding Light is pretty awesome vs. monsters. They will pretty much die that round once you duel them or if needed fight them. That spell might be enough reason to take Gandalf. You'll be getting alot of attacks. Ruin spells are good over time but if you want those monster gone right away, I'd take Gandalf. Which would be half his points in his army,

I wondered why the post notification hadn't arrived via email, for a second there. I compare both in the last post of the 'continuous tactical discussions' thread as well. Essentially, it depends on what the plan is.

Saruman: More useful against more things and has a 50% chance of preventing the dragon charging you, whereas Gandalf has to cast his spell and then beat the best too.
