Hi, I was thinking, what are the best Rohan formations that you should have in an army? Thanks |

I don't think there is a best Rohan WoTR unit specifically. I would get a 3 boxes of Militia, 3 boxes of Riders of Rohan, Theoden and go from there. You could always proxy your army (use Riders for Royal Knights for instance) till you figure out what you like. There is a discussion on their pro's and cons here, Continuous Tactical Discussions: WotR Codex. |

I would select Riders of Rohan, Royal Knights, and Oathsworn Bowmen as three formations to take. |

a full formation (9 companies) of Oathsworn bowmen goes a long way to helping! They're also so cheap I use them as allies with my Gondor army. Defence three is an issue but you have enough companies to just soak up spells or archery. and if your opponant takes something like orcs with two handers then your gaurenteed to kill a fair few companies before they get there. Having Eomer in the formation helps as well. His Epic Rage makes them s7 and doesnt affect their defence at all. Plus you have the very useful thrown weapons for when a formation gets close. For example I had this formation facing off against 9 companies of orcs with Khardush and a captain. I weathered the onslaught of spells and managed to shoot away three of his companies per turn. It only took him two turns to engage me but by that time he had gone from 9 down to 3 companies. close combat fineshed the rest.. |

Rohan has some pretty good units, particularly if you proxy them. I typically use Royal Guards, Royal Knights and on occassion Outriders. However, I am a big fan of the King's Guard(6 Compaines) led by Theoden on foot or mounted. I've fielded it enough times to see the sheer fury it can withstand and the damage it can dish out. I'm not fond of the Oathsworn Bowmen or Militia, as I've fought Wood Elves far too often and its incredibly difficult to win when they butcher half the formation at long range before you can even shoot back. In terms of Epic Heroes, Theoden is a must but I also usually field Erkenbrand, Eomer, Deorwine and Merry which gives me more than enough Might to win the day. |

Outriders are one of the best fomration for rohan when you look to their cost. They can shoot still hard, but they are calvary. |
