I'm just starting a Rohan force, partly because everyone in my area plays evil and I'm looking to change it up! I'd like to start with a simple force that has some staying power with infantry, but is still able to take on tough stuff like trolls (which a lot of people around here play). Theoden, King of Rohan Rohan Royal Guard, 3 companies Grimbold's Helmingas, 4 companies Oathsworn Militia, 4 companies Oathsworn Bowmen, 2 companies Oathsworn Bowmen, 2 companies Riders of Rohan Eored, 3 companies (Theoden goes here) Riders of Rohan Eored, 3 companies, captain Any ideas about whether or not this looks capable? I'm a little worried that there just isn't anything that hits hard enough. . . |

I am not a big fan of Grimbold's Helmingas. They do hit slightly harder than regular troops, but I just do not think that they are tough enough. Further, Grimbold will get punked in a duel. I would just take more oathsworn militia instead, and replace Grimbold with Eomer. Eomer is harder hitting. With epic rage you will kill stuff in droves. Royal Knights also hit hard because of their lances. I am not a fan of captains, I much prefer to take epic heroes. I would advise against putting Theoden, or any epic hero in a cavalry formation that only has three companies. They are likely to get shot or charged and then your hero will die. You could make one big cavalry formation, or one larger one and a smaller one. With the changes the list would look like this at 750 points. Theoden Eomer Rohan Royal Guard, 3 companies Oathsworn Militia, 4 companies Oathsworn Militia, 4 companies Oathsworn Bowmen, 3 companies Oathsworn Bowmen, 2 companies Riders of Rohan Eored, 3 companies Riders of Rohan Eored, 3 companies |

Thanks for the feedback, that's exactly what I'm looking for! I like including Eomer, as the idea of him paired with Theoden appeals to me. |

I prefer Erkenbrand to Eomer... |

May I ask why? Theoden, which I include, gives the same Epic Charge as Erkenbrand. |

Erkenbrand and Eomer are both good heroes. Personally I think you want a hero in there with the combination of Epic Strike and Epic Challenge to single out enemy spell casters. I think taking Royal Guard over the Helmingas is very good advice. Some of those Rohan Legendary formations aren't as good as their basic counterparts (true of many lists in WOTR). Their Legendary that I like best is Elfhelm's Riders, since their added mobility is a huge boost for Rohan. |
