Hey guys! I'm rather new to the hobby. I mostly got into it to collect and paint mini's last year which I got into a lot but now I'm interested in actually playing the game.

I prefer the idea of War of the Ring since I like large armies and it has a Total War feel to it.

I have a group of 3 other friends who would be interested in playing so I'm wondering if there is any specific things you would recommend to a new player. We have never done table top gaming so this is all new to us.

The armies I'm interested in is:
Angmar
Elfs
Gondor
Iron hills (which house rules do you recommend?)

Would 1000 point armies be a good place to start?

Thanks for the help!

Hi Flothrar, welcome to the best wargame.

1000 is the recommended points level in the book and gives a good evening timeframe game. I’ve seen the odd comment that 2000 points mitigates the more out-there abilities but that has not been my experience - there is more than enough ‘better than average’ stuff to replicate the 1000 point situation at 2000 pts and this is still a GW d6 game. More stuff (assuming you have the collection to utilise the points efficiently) is more time spent moving and rolling. Ymmv.

I like house rules a lot. However if you guys have a small group maybe just have it out in the open that some things are obviously a little too good for the points. It’s a good idea to get your own grip on the game as it is before looking at suggestions to change it - that way you can take a critical stance toward those suggestions.

And please post pics / batreps. I like seeing other people’s stuff.

Thank you both so much! My friends and I are excited to start this and that helps out a great deal.
