I want to upgrade my woodland difficult terrain to actually make it look difficult to walk through while still being able to move models through it. I don't like the terrain that has a flat floor with a few trees sticking out of it. Its not rough enough. I need help and Ideas as to make a good looking forest floor. I need a lot of things as ground cover like leaves, dirt, twigs, rocks, ferns, small shrubs uneven floor etc. I also want a good looking coloured dirt that doesn't look like green patches, we all know forests don't have grass growing everywhere. Its more like dirt and mud and dead foliage. Something to make to woods look dense. Similar to what Gene Parmesan did. Picks and advice is very welcome. |

Well to make an uneven ground, you could use plaster cloth or foam. As for leaves, twigs, stones and rocks, have a look at the scenery on The Army Painter website. They have dense forest brush, vines, coloured leaves, flowers and many other things. You could also look at the Woodlands Scenics website, but that would tend to be more expensive. |

I would just use (large) sand granules with some small, dry twigs; painted in the same way that you paint dirt on your bases. The same material used to make the leaves for the trees in your picture would be ideal for low-level shrubs too. |

Hey, if you're based in the UK or Ireland I used sharp sand from b&q. Glued it down to hardboard. Embedded a few twigs. Painted it in one coat with a watered down dark brown. I went over it with model railway bark chippings then flocked and static grass with various shades. I took step by step pics. I can post them after work tonight. Glad you liked it |

link http://www.sceneryexpress.com/DEAD-FALL ... fo/EX896E/ flora mat http://www.staples.com/office/supplies/ ... 04623335-2 How to make your own mat from felt. http://www.ilovetocreate.com/Howtousede ... 9e91b678dd Take brown or green felt and pin it down so that it will stay flat when the glue drys. Smear on the Aleene's Flexible Stretchable Fabric glue and add the blended flock. I recommend one of the forest floor blends from the Scenic express link. When the glue drys you will have a flexible forest mat that you can place your trees on. I think they look better than the mats from the flower shop. The overgrown yard, gardens and flower bed in the photo were made this way. The fields were made from door mats. |

you can also use things like dried herbs that look like good leaf scatter especially when there are no leaves to be found on any trees |

I have and old one from a thrift store I use for chopping up foam cushions for flock.I have a table saw so I use a lot of saw dust too. I am glad the info was helpful |
