hi guys i was just wondering if any of you had any ideas on how to build burnt out hobbit houses for use in the scouring of the shire scenarios as i already have three normal hobbit houses but i was wanting to make more burnt or burning ones. Any suggestions are welcome. Halfwit |

Umm....what exactly do you need help on? Giving it the "hey I just got torched by a ruffian" look? If so, I would recommend using the same procedure as you have for normal houses, and either: 1) light it on fire and then douse it with some water after a minute 2) Carve some pieces out and paint the house all black like it was burnt up 3) Let a toddler have it, I guarentee they'll give it an original "damaged" look (I know firsthand) No, really, don't do this. For houses currently still on fire: Try sculpting flames with greenstuff. You might ask Sahmot or someone else better with greenstuff than I how you would actually do that..... |

hmmmmm...... i am just wondering about option 1 and option 2 because both would give me good results but isnt expanding foam insanely flammable, because i make my hobbit holes with that and then i sand them and then i plaster them and flock them with static grass. |

Foam and most of hobby materials are VERY flammable and cause noxious gases when burnt. Using fire is really a no go area unless you want to get burnt. Try shaping the materials so that they look burnt and then just use black to simulate the effect. Much safer and still looks great. |

It's cool when they melt and spew poisonous gases into your face. Seriously, follow Mig's advice, and don't kill yourself. |

I melted styrofoam the other day, I didn't kill myself. I actually threw a bunch of it in a large fire, we were burning trash. But super glue works too, for those of us who aren't pyromaniacs... Besides, I didn't know at first what he had made his hobbit holes out of. |

Yes, you should definately not burn polystyrene, even when using a hot wire cutter it smells terrible, and it wouldn't be very good for your lungs. You could probably paint some steel wool and use it as smoke or flames coming out of the house. |

"How do I make destroyed houses?" "Would a guide help?" Of course, if he hasn't that issue he can't use its guide. The Article Library has some related guides: A Meeting of Old Friends The Bywater Mill The Buckland Brewery |

In Battle Games in Middle Earth issue (90) it shows you how to make burnt and damaged hobbit holes. |

Nor can I. It always seems like a good idea to build burning buildings. |
