So as it has been mentioned a few times, East Grinstead Wargamers club are thinking of doing a LotR tournament at the end of june. Probably the last weekend depending on when we can book the Venue. Early ideas thown around are a 1 day tournament, 750pts, 2 armies and 5 games. Price will probably be £10. Who would be interested in going? Hobbit Events and Discussion FB Page There has already been a lot of feedback from the above FB page and ideally we want to attract as many people as possible. Dates arnt yet set in stone but I should have a provisional date within the fortnight. |

You already know my vote is for one army, i strongly believe it will get more players, and 2 armies does slightly lend itself towards a more elitist crowd dominating. |

Id be up for it for sure! Last weekend in June looks free at the moment. 750 points sounds good! 1or 2 armies is fine with me, perhaps you can offer both options? If you come across a player with just one army e.g. good, you just use your evil army etc. |

I'm with SM (you've seen my comments on the fb page!) If it was single army, I might even be able to bring a few of us down. The reason we're not involved in the stockport event, which is a stones throw from my house, is that two 1000 point armies (good and evil) are too demanding for relatively new players (although I support the event completely and wish it the best of luck) I understand the premise but the danger is making the events too exclusive towards those who have been involved in the hobby for a long time. Still, I very much appreciate the efforts of this amazing community to build an events calendar, but hopefully providing the opinion of the "new hobbyist" to be considered. I think whilst the goal is to build a large network of potential participators, then the goal should be mass participation. The question to be answered should be "how can we get as many of the UK SBG community involved with these events?" I think the answer lies in reducing the demand on the average player, a strong advantage over GW types events. A player driven campaign for UK based tournaments shouldn't try and rival GW in grandeur, but instead use perceived weaknesses as strengths... flexibility, size, cost... all considerations. Again, my two cents! I appreciate all that you're all doing! |

Thermo and SM, both comments seen and appreciated. It is being discussed on how to make this work for everyone pretty much as I am typing here. For those coming from further afield, what time would you want to be hitting the road? Already working on schedules for the day but I am aware that some people may have a long drive home. All updates will be posted on here and the FB page so keep an eye out. |

Great stuff Southy, hope we can make it. If we drove down it's about a 4 hour trip from Manchester, not taking into account stops. So from our point of view, I'm guessing as long as we're home before our partners kick off, we should be ok! Maybe a 6pm finish? Where would everyone be coming from? |

SD - thanks for posting, I agree with a lot of the comments, the more the merrier! Might have to finally pull my finger out and make some more scenery! I will email you back, but last weekend in June and probably 1 army sounds the favoured choice! But we can carry on the conversation from Sunday via text to get it set up, we need to put something on our blog too, so if you have 5 mins perhaps email something to put up! Speak to you soon |

Cheers for the heads up SD, at the moment it looks like I'm free (actually the only weekend in June I am free) and would be well up for attending. Personally I'd favour the 1 army approach to promote accessibility for new gamers, there seems to be a genuine push this year to set up more events and growing the player base is key for that. Also, having recently played in 2 Blue V Blue tournaments I've gotta say I really don't mind the one army thing. It actually changes up the tactics quite nicely as 'no brainers' like Moria Fury hordes now have to worry about coming up against a Ringwraith with sap Will etc. As for points value I think anywhere from 600-750 is the sweet spot. Timings aren't really an issue for me as I'm an hour away tops. Looking forward to it |

Would there be any interest in a doubles event? There is a lack of doubles events bar the annual GW one so might be quite fun to attempt. Would be 1000pts, 1 army, 4 games in the day. |

I actually prefer the doubles tournament, and really don't understand why anyone but an absolute beginner would be worried by taking two armies, after all variety is the spice of lie! |
