Does anyone here play DnD, as I next week my DM is starting a new campain, after his last campain got left out and got thrown away... Anyhow, to my point What is your favourite character type, and how would you go about convincing a friend to join in (As we only have 2 players in adition to the DM, so our party is quite small) And I am the first non-Admin to post in this forum :-p |

OK, how to make people join...? General strategy: don't bore them with explanations of the rules. Let them play a game, and if they like it they'll get enthusiastic. Works like a charm I don't play much, but my favourite class is a Rogue/Wizard. Mainly Rogue. |

Used to play it about 5 years ago with a few friends. Favourite class - Ranger usually. My favourite character I had was a half elf ranger who died twice, once in the first game (another player - who was a bad spellcaster - hurled a fireball when I was fighting with a bad guy, and it hit me instead...). As far as getting people to join, basically Thror is on the ball - thats the best way. |

I played D&D first edition way back in 1978 and played through AD&D 1st and 2nd Editions too, but havn't gone 'Monster-bashing' for years and years. Funny though, I was thinking of running a small campaign over Christmas to see if my kids would like the game. And Mithaearon showed me his Middle-earth Strategy Battle Role Play Game rules (based on our favourite SBG rules) just last Friday and asked for my opinion to finish it off. To get people interested in the game? Yeah, don't frighten them with the complexity of the game, just start off gently. Give them a pre-generated character with one or two attributes missing that they can roll up or customize, get them to pick a name and start them off on a simple adventure where they can get some treasure reasonably easily. |

Ah many a joyous Weekend Nygyll of Wyvernhole (my DnD character) has been spent bashing Skeletons and banishing Ghouls. Fav Character class..... Cleric, your all round good guy, decent attacks, spells and the ability to tell off your team mates for being cruel, oh and it helps to have a Half-orc Barbarian as your bodyguard, it makes keeping everyone honest and true a lot easier as the Orc just hits them if they are naughty. Getting more people to play, apart from the obvious stated above, put an advert in your local shop window, or your GW store. You will find that there are plenty of D&D players out there, and not all of them are wierdo's.....or was it that I was weirder than everyone else so they looked normal |

Bit like Indiana Jones meets Robin Hood and Pirates of the Caribbean, with a hint of Ray Harryhausen. |

Baldur Gate... now that was a great series of games. Dark Alliance ruined it in my oppoinion though And suladanthegreat, Baldurs Gate used the 2nd edition of DnD rules And started the new campain... my Theif gets 13 skill points a level... he can do almost anything |

Just got round to reading this part of the Forum. I, like Dagorlad used to play this back in the late 70's with my mates from school and at the local wargames club (in the local church hall no less!). I remember it fondly (the Village of Hommlet followed up eventually by the Giants/Drow/Demon Queen (Lolth?) series) and a slight longing to relive those days of innocence - probably the rose tinted glasses I played a female human cleric in 1st edition - seems like there is a pattern developing here. I then moved onto second edition but only DM'd and finally bought 3rd Edition a couple of years ago but haven't played it yet - difficult to get players together at my age (kids, work and other halves seem to get in the way) so that's why I went onto tabletop games as they can be arranged, set up and played much quicker than RPGs. |

D&D is a brilliant game! Out of interest, I found a little quiz which tells you what D&D race, class, alignment and deity best suits you. Tell me what you think. The link is here. Out of interest, I came out as a Neutral Good, Elven Ranger Druid. My deity is Mielikki, the Neutral Good goddess of the forest and autumn. |

Apparentelly I am a Lawful Good Dwarf Ranger Fighter, Follower Of Mielikki I have no idea if that is good or bad as I never actually played or had any contact with DnD... besides Baldurs Gate and maybe other similar videogames. |

You Are A: Neutral Good Human Ranger Druid Follower Of Mielikki Who is Meilikki? Deity: Mielikki is the Neutral Good goddess of the forest and autumn. She is also known as the Lady of the Forest, and is the Patron of Rangers. Her followers are devoted to nature, and believe in the positive and outreaching elements of it. They use light armor, and a variety of weapons suitable for hunting, which they are quite skilled at. Mielikki's symbol is a unicorn head. Human Ranger..that will do nicely. |

I used to play AD&D some years ago. My favourite character was Sithel, a half-elf fighter mage. Nowadays I play more MERP and White Wolf's storytelling games (Vampire, Werewolf, ...). Quote: Who is Mielikki?
She's also a forest deity in our national epic. Didn't know they had taken her into D&D too. Cool... I guess. The D&D description matches quite well, although we didn't have rangers and unicorns at that time. -- Pasi |

OMG - I am a True Neutral Gnome Bard Ranger and a follower of Calladuran Smoothhands. This is not a character class or race I would normally pick. Perhaps the next character I roll up will be a Gnome Bard Ranger? |
