Two Kickstarters for you to peruse, first up the is Return of the Monsters from Heresy Miniatures:

Some seriously nice monster action from lowly minions to the literally epic sized Netherlord. Andy is a great chap and this Kickstarter is pretty much make or break it for him so it good to see it doing so well.

Next up is the new Kickstarter from Battle Systems for their fantasy Dungeon starts tonight at 8pm BST:

I am working on the Sci-Fi set at the moment and it is great. A little work is required in trimming the pieces and glueing the edges if you wish (to strengthen the thin cuts) but the end result is excellent.

Like the look of the Dungeon BattleSystem, might have to look at investing in that one

I love the dungeon sets. Especially since I use D&D dungeon maps and tiles for games of LotR SBG, that could really open up some nice 3d possibilities. I'll keep an eye on it.

i had a good look, but IMHO i think its a bit over priced at £78 for a 2 foot square board of printed card board. I would rather make my own

Well I put the first of my two sci-fi Strongholds together for a game of Star Wars on Saturday and, for me personally, it really shows why it's worth the money. As the KS goes on they usually add a load of free additional parts and what I set up in these pictures doesn't include any of them!

Yes, i have to admit that does look really good, how big is it?

That's 2x2 (so I'll have 2x4 once done), the sci-fi set sits on card flooring the clicks together however the fantasy set is coming with a gaming mat, exactly like those from Mantic (Deadzone and Mars Attacks) so I'll be topping up on those for at least a 4x4 if not 6x4.
I don't think calling it 'card' (which of course it is) terrain really does it justice, not only does it look this good but it is really sturdy (especially if you do the gluing the edges trick).

Yup :)

Andy has just put up a 'sketch' for the new Fallen One level monster, currently dubbed Ner' Gabba. She's quite the "beauty":

The highlights have to be the sewer/lava system and the fortress add on, looks really good.

completely agree, the fortress was a real shocker, totally amazing. Love the way the lava is reversible to become water

Forgive my ignorance but how do these Kickstarters work ? It seems you bid a little and get loads if enough people bid, or do you have to keep upping your bid ?

Kickstarter is a funding system, basically a company has an idea for a product and instead of going to the usual sources for investment (banks etc) they can put up a project on Kickstarter and let the public directly fund the product cutting out all the middle men. As a backer you will generally find that there are various levels of 'pledges' which basically equate to your choices for how much you want to invest in the product. Like all investments you expect to see returns and in the the case of miniature kickstarters this usually entails a copy of the product you are backing. Kickstarters can and do fail for various reasons but your money will only be taken if the project reaches its target total.

Hope that helps a little, it does tend to get a bit more complicated with stretch goals and the such but I think that covers the basics.

Thanks for the synopsis, at least I have an idea now. If I see something I like I may pledge a few quid to see how it goes for me and take it from there.
