Apologies if this has been covered anywhere else but a search didn't uncover any so here goes. It is a 10mm scale sci-fi battle game, focussed around urban battles between 4 factions that are competing for dominance over what were once human worlds. As the name suggests, dropships feature a lot,, in fact they are the means by which most forces arrive on the table. Hawk Wargames produce a starter set in plastic with 2 small starter armies, dice, rules and terrain plus tape measure, all in the one box. The expansions are all resin at present, except for some of the terrain packs which feature a lot of modern buildings in heavy printed card. DZC as it is known has picked up a very enthusiastic following in a short time, as the rules are very pragmatic but there is a lot of tactical thinking required as mistakes can be very costly. Beasts of War did a demo game and Warren has recently attended a DZC tournament. Have a nosey, see what you think. http://www.beastsofwar.com/dropzone-com ... t-unboxed/ http://www.beastsofwar.com/dropzone-com ... me-part-1/ http://www.beastsofwar.com/dropzone-com ... me-part-2/ http://www.beastsofwar.com/dropzone-com ... 14-part-1/ http://www.hawkwargames.com/ |

I've been following the development of this game since its pre-launch announcement. Looks quite fun but it's 5th on my list lol. I've gotta finish developing my Dreadball, Deadzone, Bolt Action and of course LOTR before I can move on to this too |

DzC, like DZ and DB (lots of acronyms tonight folks) can be a small, self-contained game if that is all you want it to be, and the rules are basically straightforward. You can go bigger but there is not perhaps anything like the pressure to do so. And it is fun, there is no denying it. |

I finally jumped into this with the super-value starter set and it really is a fantastic game with awesome models. |

You do realise I am talking myself into getting this as well? Maybe they should lock me in a windowless, soundproofed room with no access to money or computers... |

That might be wise, the internet has a lot to answer for, just to easy to see shiney toys |

It's the voices I'm hearing that are the worrying part... |

I bought the starter set about a week ago and am part way through assembling all of the models. The amount of stuff you get in the set is nothing short of amazing and the quality of the models and their design is top-notch. The rules seem quite serviceable, but I've yet to play a game of it. Buy it Chris, you know you want to. |

The UCM and PHR forces look good, and I like the concept. I find the other two factions to be uninspiring. |

If you want any more reasons to buy it, just check out the Beasts of War vids, Warren will soon persuade you |

What makes it so remarkable is that the bulk of the game, the designs and all the other elements came from one guy. |

And if you ever see a first edition rulebook, you will note that the proofreading was done by him too. Examples: A bear metal paintjob. ...moving through dessert terrain... |

Mentioning No Names WhatSoEver (cough), there are companies with very large teams of people who have and still are making typographical errors, omissions and technical mistakes. And some even making historical minis with the wrong kind of add-on armour (but to be fair, in the latter case, they are genuinely mortified and are making amends with replacement parts). |

If ever there was something to drool over, have a good drool over this: Just LOOK at the 3 metre long 'miniature!' This is an exhibition piece though no doubt it will be used for photography to be incorporated into the game books. Lots of other cool news in there too, like the 30mm scale resin cast collestors line they will be creating. It is great to see such an inspired company going from strength to strength. Here is the newsletter with photos and interesting news - more on their Facebook and coming in Beasts of War! http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0159/4 ... 4.pdf?1550 |

The new Resistance (is futile?) faction are getting some very interesting looking minis. They appeal to me as underdogs. There is a bunch of sneak-peeks on Hawk Wargames Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Hawk-Warg ... 7118516882 |

I would love to get the Resistance but as I'm already collecting 2 forces, can't really justify getting another - unless they do a super bargain deal, will cost to much to collect 3. |

Hawk listened to the hobbyists (isn't that nice?) and have expanded the range of plastic starter sets in include 4 of the 5 factions (the Resistance are brand new so that may happen for them later on). It allows people on a tighter budget to get into the game: http://www.hawkwargames.com/collections/the-core-range |
