All three are good in their own right, but depending on your playstyle one is better then the others.

Personally I'm a big fan of Radagast. Seeing as I play Wood Elves mostly, his abilities fit in perfectly with the rest of the force. He can keep up with them through forests and hide just as well, allows them to Volley Fire anywhere on the board, and Thrown Rider helps make up for a lack of Elven cavalry. He's a bit lacking in offensive punch, but then again a cadre of Elven archers is usually enough to begin with ;)

For me, it has to be Saruman - even though he had a reduction of power after the last rulebook I think he is an excellent addition to an Isengard force of around 600+ points. Sorcerous blast is one of the best spells in the game and the look on your opponent's face when you compel his favourite hero into your phalanx is a joy to behold. He also has a standfast of 12" to keep your hordes in line. The option to mount a horse (from LoME) is also a very good idea if you decide to convert him (as I did) because it allows him to escape from some tricky situations which, on foot he could find himself in - you can also move forward a few inches, cast a few spells and then retreat, something which was very difficult on foot. Overall I certainly think he is better value for points than Gandalf (the White) even though Gandalf is more powerful. I think

Radagast also has his merits (as mentioned by Lupino) and is a very good choice for any elven army.

Although Gandalf the White is powerful, he is too many points IMO to warrant a place in an army that isn't 1000+

Ack, I should've mentioned, I was thinking the Good version of the Wizards, since Evil Saruman and Good Saruman have different stats, but your point still stands. :D

Radagast, for reasons of originality.

Radagast for me too. Love your Saruman Josephagababa

Radagast or Gandalf on Gwaihir must be useful to for hit and run.

gandalf the white is the best wizard due to the sheer amount of powers he has but I use radagast more as I prefer a defensive strategy and he has more in that right. Plus I usually play elves so his panic steed is ideal as elves don't have cavalry. And I use renew for gilgalad as he only has 1 fate point.

Radagast the Brown, for originality and Panic Steed, which I find a very fun spell to use.

ReaKon, Gil-galad and Radagast are from different times I believe...the latter came to Middle-earth around a thousand years after the former's death.

i know but alot of the time we just use whatever models we like. I wouldn't usually use both unless it was agreed on or in a scenario

Hmm, Radagast is doing much better then I thought, considering how rare he's seen on the battlefield, at least in my area.

Although in the new rules Radagast can't ride on Giant Eagles anymore, sad really but then what're you gonna do?

I prefer Gandalf the Grey...nice choice of powers (off & def) and not as expensive as Gandalf the White. :D

I prefer also Gandalf the Grey. Saruman is nice, but has no defensive powers. Radagast's Panic steed and Renew are very useful, but I like Cast Blinding Light and Sorcerous Blast more. And Gandalf the White is to expensive.

Radagast. Everyone has seen Saruman and Gandalf, both in the movies and on the gaming table. We know who they are and what they can do.
Radagast is more the kind of wizard that can take you by surprise with some of his spells that are a lot nastier then they first appear to be.

wow no one has bothered to mention that there are other spell casters in middle earth that are posibly better than these wizzards (cough "Khamul" cough) but I like the Gandalf the white because he helps the forces of gondor perfectly

Saruman... duh!

Gandalf the White is easily the most powerful, but I think that (as we have seen) Radagast can be very useful.

Cheers

Well, if you use a full power witch-king, the witch-king totally destroys Gandalf the grey or saruman.
I've fought a great many battles when I was gandalf or saruman and I always lost.

That's because the topic of this thread is Wizards ;) If you want a general "who's the better magician" you're free to start your own thread.

I belive there aren't official rule for blue OR red wizards yet, so you can't put them on the battlefield yet.

hmm 'red wizards' you say. I thought that there were two isatari that were known as the 2 blue wizards - so who is the red one lol. Or is the red wizard some other guy?

i was reading the two towers yesterday and i read

quote from treebeard

'gandalf is the only one of the 3 that comes about these parts lately'

apart from that and the fact that gandalf the grey is so cool - it has to be him - radasgast carries a crow, how sad :( and saruman has a boyfriend called Grima  - although Frodo and Gandalf were awfully close..... :o
