I personally have never been a big fan of the Black Dart spell for the Ringwraiths, even though I know there is some evidence for its existence in the books. I was just wondering, for those of you who have played through the first journey book, how hard do you think it would be for the ringwraiths to win those scenarios without that spell?

Before the Channeled spells, Black dart was mainly used to assassinate banners and weak targets. Fate made it near worthless against heroes. So Pre-Hobbit rules, it really wasnt necessary to win scenarios.....now however, the channeled spell wrecks monsters and lighter heroes but I still wouldnt say it is hard to win without it.....Transfix, Sap Will and Compell are far more useful since the casting cost of Black Dart is so high....Honestly, I think of Black dart as a utility spell but not one I would cast every turn

I almost never use black dart. It's a huge waste of will in most cases. Transfix, compell, and sap will are typically far more useful

I just had this mental image of the Nine playing darts in a pub....

Indeed. The Channelled version is even more risky. You expend a Might, then a good few Will points in order to succesfully cast it on that 5+ (so as not to waste the Might), then need a 3+ to Wound (4+ against a few targets) and then need another 3+ on the D3 roll, or the Might is still wasted as you'll cause just a single wound anyway. Assuming the target doesn't have a Will/Reistant to Magic, which makes it even less likely to succeed.
If you can reach the target in melee, much better to transfix, charge some guys in and cause a wound (or more) that way.

Thank you guys for the replies. They are all very reassuring. I really don't get much gaming in nowadays, but you guys definitely make up for that.
