Hi guys, I was wondering how to make the best use of arnor, in particular the grey company. Can anyone who uses or knows anything about how to play them please tell all here please? Thanks, LordElrond |

Stand still, shoot, hope you dont get shot, lots of spears and dont bite off more than you can chew. At higher points, definatley take the twins. They always come in handy. At 1000pts, I would take the twins, arathorn and malbeth as your warband leads and make sure you have spear support for everybody. Tbh, I havent used them this edition so not sure how the -1 to shoot would affect them. Best way before was to deploy roughly half way then slowly walk backwards shooting. Might dust them off and give them a go. |

The Halbarad model on the GW website has a War Horn, but it is not in his wargear or options. Is this a mistake? |

Hi lord elrond I love the grey company, they look good and are fun to play , halberd with banner when painted looks great on the battle field . But their really difficult to play. We battled last night this was my army - Halbarad 12 RoA (5 w/ spear) Malbeth the Seer 12 RoA (5 w/ spear) 6 Rangers of the North (3 w/ spear) Total 500 points I was facing wargs with riders and morannon orcs with shield and spear, we play reconnoiter . I was rolling 6's to wound both with bow fire and attacks they had to roll only 4's. it was tight at first ,i i tried to avoid fights and pick my battles but when combat eventual took place proper , I lost , hard. In conclusion they look great , have a fantastic theme , but aren't very competitive , personal I think they need some house rule , maybe long bows, or your opponent needs to agree to play more equally matched pieces now and again just so you can justify getting them out of the box. |

I'm allying them with high elves most of the time, they will mainly be used as support troops and for flanking. Would this work? |

The Grey Company work as a great ally to almost anyone as a matter of fact. Allying in a single warband of rangers pretty much guarantee's you will have ranged superiority (and the spears are damn handy too :3). Without trying to offend D0Cdeath, i reckon that rangers are very competitive, he only lost because a cavalry army vs a stationary bow army has such an upper hand in reconnotoire. Make sure to use your 'bonus' warbands of lone rotn to 'scout' positions (this is especially useful in domination to capture bases within your homeland) In terms of hero selection, i don't really like Halbarad, Arathorn is a much better low level option |

For ten points more you get Arathorn who has one more attack, i just see that as far more useful :/ |

Saying Arathorn is good doesn't mean Halbarad is bad. For less than 10 more points you can get an extra ranger with spear, for an extra attack, an extra shot, and an extra wound There's nothing wrong with either one. |

No offence taking . As mention I think the GC are fun to play , but I'm not sure how competitive they are especially now of the new bow rule. If i really want to win a game i wouldn't play them. Do you think giving them an extra 1" of movement or the master of wilderness rule ( to represent their skill at tracking maybe ) would be too OP?. |

I'm pretty sure that Aragorn, Isildur's heir gives rangers that rule anyway. @Lord Elrond, that is pretty much the best way to field them, as bolsters to a pre-existing force. |
