i was just wondering who is best to choose from for my war band leader , knight of the white tower or a captian of minas tirith?.I know the knight is a few extra points but he has an extra fight and his special rule sounds really good . Which would you choose and why? :?

I do believe that the knight of the white tower is an independant hero and therefore cannot lead your warband.

he hasnt got the little flag icon next to his profile to symbolise an independant hero

I tend to take one of each, if you give a captain a shield (def 7) then they are both the same points. The white knight needs troops to back him up as to get the most from his special rule and tbh the generic captain fills the role perfectly. And yes, he can lead a warband. Battalia must be thinking of the Kings Huntsmen for Rohan.

Have to agree with fritskuhntm...or for a bit more I'd rather have Faramir...or quite a bit less, Beregond. A captain is "okay" if you don't have anyone else. IMHO, the Knight is a specialty profile, really only useful against monsters and enemy heroes (and even there, he needs someone else to win the fight for him because for his special rule he has to go 2-handed), with not enough Might to lead troops.

But a Knight leading 12 FC w/shield allied with Rumil leading some spear+shield Galadhrim and a few pikes...cower and flee, ye monstrous trolls and southron beasts! :)

Why would you rather have madril ? The stats of the knight seem to be better apart from the might even a captain with shield looks better again apart from the might .

Just for me:
a) the extra Might is a big deal
b) I'd normally rather go with a specialty profile that excels in a particular area, than a generic that is middling in several. A CoMT is probably best used as a tank, but there are better tanks.

For the most part I agree that an extra point of Might will usually be more effective in the game than a particular stat increase.

Exceptions always exist and your intention for the Hero plays a huge part of course. As long as that Hero isn't such a liability that you can't use him for his intention. If you are looking to get a Hero that's going to mostly call Heroic Combat with the front line troops then he needs the Defense (or Fate!) to survive those combats and a high Fight to help his group get the strikes.

@whafrog: That combo is... Just mean for 125pts you could feasibly take on and win a fight against a Balrog and kill it. Simply amazing!
