It seems ridiculous to me that a horse archer would be able to shoot effectively with one of those big Lothlorien bows. Unless there is a real world parallel somewhere I'm not aware of, I think they should only be normal S2 bows and cost 1 point. Or, more realistically, the best a cavalry bow can be is like an Orc bow...S2 and 18" range. Thoughts? |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gcpHB-flwJQ Well apparently English longbowmen could use longbows mounted. I just learned that too! |

Interesting! Shooting with a longbow is hard enough standing. I shoot with a traditional recurve bow, which is designed for mounted combat. But why do we know so little about mounted longbow combat? Never heard of it. |

I have been doing horse archer for several years now and I use a old hunish war bow andabout its about the size of your average longbow. Besides the elves do have a little more time to practice there mounted archer then us short lived humans |

The mounted normal size or longbow (two sizes of bow, not two names for the same thing, lol) was used origianlly for hunting. |

William the Conquerer was mentioned as being able to hold a longbow steady while at full gallop, so it seems that longbows were used on horseback, but it was of course incredibly hard to do (for a mortal anyway). |

Okay, thanks for the corrections. I was starting to feel like a power gamer building my fleet of bow-armed knights... |

Also Samurai used 2 yard bows while on horseback, at full gallop, to great effect (though these were modified with the handle on 1/3 from the bottom, so it wouldn't be difficult to use. |

i know this is a bit of post necromancy but I was wondering are horse archers (I will be using Galadhrim Knights, cue the post in Galadhrim horse bows topic) worth it in SBG they are kinda useless in WOTR and I was just wondering if they are any more effective in SBG |

They are more effective in SBG than in WotR. In the former they have many uses, try playing Rohna without mounted archers why don't you, not at all like WotR in which mtd archers are not worth their cost. Haradrim Raiders all the way! |

I thought that might be the case as in WOTR you get 2 cavalry models to every 8 infantry (if you play WOTR as well as SBG that will actually make sense) whereas in SBG it is one to one, I will be using galadhrim knights which are expensive so are they only useful as harassment troops or can they be used for a full on charge/shock troops (or both as I am hoping) |
