Post subject:  wraiths

hello,

this afternoon i'm going to play a 1000 point battle, ringwraiths against fellowship. I'm playing the wraiths, and i have to use them all.

So i have 9 wraiths but should i give one a fellbeast, a horse or just max out in will power? and which nazgul do i have to give the fellbeast?
now i have:

name might/ will/ fate / points
Witch king: 2 17 3 130
shadow lord: 2 14 2 120
undying: 2 20 0 120
khamul or tainted: 2 12 2/ 1 12 1 + fellbeast, both 170 each
dark marshall: 2 12 2
nazgul1: 1 10 2 85
nazgul2: 1 10 2 85
nazgul3: 1 10 2 85
nazgul4: 1 10 2 85

So, I though the tainted would be usefull on fellbeast because of his 'wound-rule', but he's low on might and fate and khamul can gain will and has more might and fate.
should i keep the fellbeast or give all the rest more will and perhaps include a horse?
comments appreciated!

If you're playing for theme (which I am strongly in favour of here) then max out your wraiths with might, will and fate. The fellbeast will just look odd if the rest are on foot. Added to that it will be a puncushion by the time legolas is finished with it

I agree with lorderkenbrand. Maybe give WK a Morgul Blade, but only if you decide before the match who you want to use it on.
And, since you're on foot with all 9, I would include Tainted and Khamul, for fun and the Bansai-Wraith: run Tainted into the center of the Fellowship formation - he'll probably be the first model you lose, but it'll provide some distraction while WK breaks Gandalf's staff & the rest focus on Gimli, Aragorn, & Boromir one at a time.

i would actualy do a mix i would include the witchking with morgul krown and full M/W/F and Kumul with full stats and then include some lesser ones worth 55 points onfell beast

i would put them all on foot here and max out. also, the dark marshall doesn't do much good here, as his special rule only works on warriors, all he brings is F6, which is useful to tie with the combat heroes, but he costs more and has less will. i personally would max out a normal RW.

Either way the Fellowship are doomed! :?

probably, but it will take a lot of will to do it - each wraith needs to sap the will (maybe 2/3 will to make sure?) then they need to transfix them (maybe another couple of will again to make sure) then they have to charge.

lets think about aragorn vs maxed out WK:

turn 1: 3 will to sap
turn 2: 2 will to transfix, 1 will to charge. can only cause 1 wound. resisted with 2 fate
turn 3: another 2 will to transfix. 1 will for combat. can only cause 1 wound. resisted with 1 fate
turn 4: yet to wound, uses 2 will to transfix, 1 for combat. causes 1 wound
turn 5: 2 will to transfix, 1 for combat. causes 1 wound
turn 6: 2 will to transfix, 1 for combat. causes final wound

the WK kills aragorn with 2 will remaining. this is a really lucky scenario for the Witch king, it assumes he beats and wounds aragorn every time - this is highly unlikely! (assuming no morgul blade, of course) if that kind of luck would pretty much destroy the witch king, i find it unlikely that the fellowship would be destroyed - especially with gandalf annoying wraiths with his will.

yes indeed, the witch king didn't survived the battle, as did all the rest. The fellowship, 1000 points means a very strong fellowship ( for exemple, anduril...). i finally didn't take any horse or fellbeast but now i would certainly do it. You really need someone to kill those strong heros. i managed to kill aragorn, boromir and merry but the others survived.

next time we will play the same scenario but he will be the wraiths this time. but it's really fun to play this, so i would say: try it. :D

well frodo is probably a goner - that ring makes him much weaker to wraiths than say, Samwise the brave. merry and pippin are very weak, but probably got ignored
