Greetings!

I'm struggling to understand the intent of the loser backs away rules, particularly when losing against multiple models.

Is it the intent that the losing model moves only 1", and so could be within 1" of one or more of the attacking models, or is it that the model moves so that it is 1" away from all the attacking models?

As I understand it the second option will have a much greater effect on trapping models as it limits where they can go.

My thanks in advance.

Loser backs away exactly 1" (no more, no less) in a direction of the controlling player's choosing. A model backing away like this can enter an enemy's control zone, but can't go into base contact. So, if you can only back something 0.5" away before it touches an enemy or terrain feature, it's trapped.

I was about to be really proud of myself for how helpful I am, then I realized I ignored your question completely. The aim isn't to back away so the losing model is 1" away from an enemy, it just backs 1" away. So, against multiple enemies, it might be the case that it's 1" away from one enemy, but less than that away from the other, as long as it's able to move a full inch in any direction, it's fine.

Hope that helps!
