Hey guys, I am about to build my first Mordor Orc warband and paint them, however, I understand each weapon has different abilities from what I have read. My next purchase will be the rulebook, but for now, it is a bit cost prohibitive. I'd like to select the models for my warband with the best weapon options. If it is not against posting rules, could someone give me a quick overview and their own take on how to kit out Mordor Orcs? |

Give the spear guys shields. If i were you i'd field ALL the archers as orc trackers, or jsut not bother with them. Also if we are talking about regular orcs here, i'm 90% sure the box comes with no 'bitz' to convert them. If you can, take axes/picks with all your troops without spears! |

You are right, there are no bits to convert them, however I just have a lot and can pick and choose right now for just warband. Are spears really that bad? |

You will see that spears > other weapons in Sbg (now they can also roll for hit) For first line orcs i suggest you to use some sword because they often play with less Fight than your opponent's models (having a bonus with no disadvantages is nice) Axes are a good alternative but it depends on your own game style |

page 70 in the rulebook I only use feint (swords) and piercing strike (axes) personally. mainly because that is what most of my models come armed with as standard so. |

Back to topic, i meant give the spear guys shields as well as their spears (glue the shields onto their backs or something.) Spears are the best things in the game. |

Finnegas wrote: Can someone give me a give overview of the new strikes, their penalties and bonuses? Sounds like asking, not clarifying to me. Lord of easterling wrote: SNIP That is exactly what is written in the rules, bar a little bit of description. So forgive my pouncing. Next time I'll use claws |

Lord of easterling wrote: That's a simple overview, hope it helps Thank you! It most certainly does. I assume people are ok with the risk of D3 lower defence as it balances out overall? Seems risky to me, but I don't have a good understanding of the rules. |

Axes are amazing on low D models where the drop in defence doesnt matter. so goblins, hobbits, rohan etc. On dwarves, it can be a bit more risky. |

Ah I see. So, in a warband of 12, should I spread things out like, 4 axes, 4 guys with shields and spears, 4 guys with swords and spears? Or go something more like, 6 guys with shields and spears, 6 guys with axes? |

Taking swords/daggers for low fight troops isn't a bad idea either, if you're mainly up against higher fight foes, since there is no point not using it |

Wait.... Do these new weapon rules apply to normal games of LOTR SBG? If so, what is now a "two handed weapon" ? |

yes they do, they get the bonus applied to the relevant weapon plus the bonus for being 2H. so -1 to win the fight but +1 to wound. |

First, I don't think Swords + Spears is a usable combo for the most part. Shield/Spear is much more flexible. Next, don't get hung up on the Special Strikes. They are something you may find yourself not using every turn for various reasons (not the least of which is trying to remember them when the game is in full swing, but also that they can slow down things and you risk the negative result). I am finding them more of an actual 'special' strike...something I call on now and then but not every turn similar to using 2H weapons. Orc infantry have a lot of variety available in their raw models to begin with, but are also very easy to modify since you can have the weapons look a bit more 'rough' than you may want for Rohan for example. And there's no reason not to mix up a nice variety of them in your warbands since they are more mob than formal army. Example: Put in 4-5 shield/spear in a warband because it's so versatile and will help the others win the Fight rolls. Then thrown in a mix of what you have with some spice to represent the rabble of Orcs. Two or three with 2H options is good for getting thru high armor but 3-4 Axe/Shield models are good alternatives (I think you can even have 2H axes but would need to re-read the rules). Another 2-3 with hammer / mace and the rest with Sword/shields. Two or three warbands like that would play well and have a lot of variety in both options and visual appeal. |
