The shoter one in EFGT has no profiles, only get it if you will definately use either Thorin's Company or Goblin Town, or both. Otherwise, the hardback is much better. |

I will say from experience that having the small rule book for the classic SBC has been awesome. Love being able to carry it around so easily and it takes up almost no room on the table. The size and convenience factor has pushed me from getting the new hardback into saving up for EfGT and getting the small book. You can also get the small book even more cheaply on line second hand. The larger book does have some nice 'extras' but nothing as far as rules go. I would also like to point out that as far as I know when people say that "points and profiles are in the big book" they are only referencing Hobbit-specific point/profiles. It's not like the classic OR book that had all of the originally available forces. If you are playing Isengard, Mordor, Rohan, etc. you won't find any of their point/profiles in there. Please correct me if I'm wrong. |

You are almost correct Beowulf, The 5 Warbands sourcebooks exist for the purpose of profiles for LotR minis, but if you want to use Hunter Orcs, or Grimmnhhammers etc, you will need the Hobbit Rulebook. The profile for the LotR models are in fact in the Hobbit rulebook, at the back, but no special rules or pts values. |
