Hi,

I am new to LotR and have just discovered this forum. At this moment I am building an Easterling army.
I have finished:

1 Captain
1 Standard Bearer
1 full box of Easterlings = 8 shield, 8 bow, 4 spear
12 Orcs

What should I start with next?
Please help!

Welcome to the one ring mate.

I never played with/against easterlings but I would suggest getting some kataphracts and khamul.

Your choice is limited for a pure Easterling force but I'd go for another box of infantry and a few cavalry before any special characters.

You definitely need more troops, but picking up Khamul, Amdur and the new command box with the Dragon Knight would be helpful. Easterlings alone can be difficult because there are no elite troops. Also, the box set of warriors is a bit irritating because even though you can use your spears as pikes, I think you only get 4 spears in a box. But if you can get enough spears, having everything but bowmen at D6 really slows down your attrition rate.

Since you already have some orcs, an alliance with Mordor might be natural. Maybe an orc command and another box of orcs...they aren't elite either, but they make up for it with numbers.

Doesn't hurt to also pick up the Shadow in the East supplement, you might find more ideas in there.

We might be able to help more if we knew whether you play War of the Ring or Strategy Battle Game...

I think we can safely presume it's SBG. Not that many start off straight away with WotR, at least not around here anyway. As for the army, it's a good place to start. If you have the orcs already, it might be worth expanding on that mordor ally force as Easterlings have a very limited variety.

Thanks everyone this helps a lot.
Sorry I didn't mention it, but I have A Shadow In The East and a Orc command.
I play the SBG and my main opponent has Gondorians:
1 box of infantry
1 command
Beregond
and he is painting some Rangers.

Thanks again

Get some Easterling Horsemen. And Khamul.
If you want, you could get some Khandish soldiers as well.
If you want more easterling pikemen, then you can easily convert some swordsman into pikemen. But I wouldn't recommend that, because you are new to the game and such conversions aren't easy.

Just get whatever you want. Thats what I do.

Hi,

I do really want to get Khamul, but he is the same price as a box of infantry! :o
I have looked on eBay, but have never seen any Easterlings so I don't think I will be getting Khamul any time soon.
The next thing I was planning on painting was a cave troll I have. :)
